Saab 9-5 Wagon

2002 9-5 wagon...good idea or not?

I am in the market for a new car, I have test drove a couple of these cars....and love them! I am coming off of a BMW 528 wagon, which I will miss dearly, but it is not in my budget right now to buy another. I know that Saabs can be pricey to repair, but over all, what are some of the major issues with that year? Also, are those things that a handy family mechanic can fix? Also ... Read More...

Re:

Can I just bemoan the fact that my 2002 9-5 Arc V6, which cost me 33k new, is worthless about now? Maybe someone will tell me no worries, that I got good value out of it. I dunno. Right now I'm really pissy about it. Feeling like if I had a BMW or Lexus, my car would be worth far more, and enough more to easily make up the difference in the initial cost. I had a moderately hard-driven ... Read More...

Saab 9-5 Recall

Saab 9-5 Recall

WASHINGTON — Saab is recalling 57,389 9-5 series cars from the 2002-'08 model years to install new A-pillar trim with "improved energy-absorbing capability." The federal government reports that the affected vehicles failed to comply with one of the government requirements for occupant protection during "interior impact." Does this affect your 9-5? Talk ... Read More...

Re: Car stutters while on highway, stops at lights [jwooda33]

I've had a similar problem with my 2002 Saab 9-5 (with ~68K miles on it). Symptoms sounded exactly like yours - had it checked by a mechanic when the check engine light came on eventually. It was caused by a faulty crankshaft position sensor. Got it replaced, car seems to behaving well now. Should cost you ~ $120, not too bad. Do get it changed - the good news is that ... Read More...

Just bought 2007 9.5 Aero Combi

Dealer in Maine took $6,777 off sticker, I test drove the car(25 miles on the clock) and fell in love. Have owned a 2000 and 2002 ARC sedans, both with V-6's. I did not know what I was missing. (But, I had basically zero problems with both cars, despite all the neg. comments on the V-6) Seats, power, handling, braking, HK sound system all super. Options include Visibility ... Read More...

Re: Recurring Steering Problem [zoozeek]

I bought a used 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero in January 2005 from an independent mechanic with whom I have been doing business since 1991. The car was just off lease and had 35,000 miles. At 49,132 miles I took it to a Saab dealer for the "looseness" in the front end or steering column. They found nothing (of course) The warranty expired at 50,000 Miles. At 53,000+ miles, I took ... Wanted to book a trip for Euro delivery, website says check back for 2009 models. Email, get a nasty response that GM's board says that this issue will not be answered again in an email (mind you, I am trying to buy ... Read More...

2.3 4 vs. 3.0 V-6

I am on my 3rd 9.5. First two (2000 and 2002) we're V-6 powered, my 2007 is, of course a 2.3 260 HP turbo, Aero in this case. I used to be annoyed when folks picked on the V-6, I loved the power and smoothness of that engine, although that asymetrical turbo seemed to cause a weird "elastic" throttle response. Anyway, between the two V-6's, I put on combined 50,000 + miles ... Read More...

Re: ABS Control Module - New, Used, or Refurbished [jscottk]

I can't speak for Saab's but I had a similar problem on my GMC Sierra. The ABS control module went out and the dealer wanted $700.00 for a new one and $700 to put it in. I decided to try and fix it myself. 1. The car ran fine without it. 2. I didn't have to deal with any brake lines. It was an electric only module so it was easy to remove. 3. I fixed it myself. One of the FET's inside ... Read More...
