Saab 9-3 Prices Paid and Buying Experience

Couple more things

You can find independent shop specialized in Saab/Volvo repairs (much cheaper than what the dealers charge). I bought my first Saab new in 2001 but I kept buying CPO Saab after that. My CPO Saabs were more reliable than my "new" Saab (esp the 9-5 Aero). You can save a lot by buying a used Saab but you really need a warranty (its CPO is a $0 deductible one, not like Audi ... A sad Saab story, with happy ending (kinda)

My 18 yr old was involved in a terrible accident in his beloved 2001 Saab 9-3 hatchback. This was his first car, and our first Saab. It WAS quirky, and frequently required repairs that quickly added up, but it was a great car for a teen driver. In this accident, which involved a frontal crash at 35 mph, and being rear-ended so hard that the back of the car was literally ... Read More...

Saab 9-3 Prices Paid and Buying Experience

Re: depreciation? [waterdr]

Here is an example of a "luxury" 9-5 2001 Saab with lowish miles getting $4,500: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ee9c851/34544 Sad....very sad, indeed if you ask me. Go to the last page. Read More...

Saab 9-3 Reliability?

Re: Saab 9-3 Reliability? [wayland1985]

It unfortunately depends on the model year. The first year of the last generation 9-3 is 2003 (2003-2007). That year in particular had a number of electrical problems experienced by many owners, as this one did. Not all the problems always stay fixed, so there is risk involved in this purchase. As time passed the problems were fixed. My 2006 Saab 9-3 with luxury ... Read More...

Saab 9-3 Convertible

2000 9-3 convertible

Just adding my own experience... I currently own a 2000 9-3 convertible, at about 78000 miles, 5-speed base model. I owned one previously, a 2001 SE model, but it was an automatic so I didn't keep it. These cars do feel a bit "loose" in stock form and there is cowl shake, as previously mentioned. To remedy this problem, as many have done, I ordered a steering rack brace, ... Read More...

Saab 9-3 Sedan

Bought a 2007 9-3

Previously owned a 2001 9-3 and it was reliable and economical, but unimpressive. The 2007 is a step up in quality, handling and features. The new 9-3 was flawless from the factory because of Saab's predelivery inspection protocol (PDI). The car has run without a hitch (5,000 business miles in a month and a half). The assurance of GM's 5 year 100K drivetrain, 10 ... Read More...

Saaber of 93 and 95

Saab is a high performance sport car. Super fast and fun thanks to its jet inspired, the most efficient of its kind turbo-charged engine, providing exceptional overtaking performance. In fact, the limited (MY99-02) 9-3 Viggen's engine is nearly 12 percent more efficient at producing horsepower per liter of engine displacement than the 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera. ... Read More...

Saab 9-3 Convertible

Re: 2003 Saab 9-3 Convertible [esfoad]

I wanted to ask you if the armrest you bought for your 2001 Saab looked liked it was from the factory. I understand you have a 2004 now which came with the armrest in the car. Thanks for your replies. Good luck with the '04!! Steve Read More...

Re: 2003 Saab 9-3 Convertible [jeep53]

There is an accessory armrest available from Saab for the previous model. I had it on my 2001. BTW, we now have a 2004 convertible and loved both of these cars. Try this link http://www.stateofnine.com/page/stateofnine/PROD/Non-sliding-ArmRest or this one http://www.stateofnine.com/page/stateofnine/PROD/SlidingArmrest Read More...

Saab 9-3 Reliability?

I tried to switch but I failed

Saab cars are fun to drive. They are not just a vehicle. I bought my 2001 Saab as new. I took good care of my car but its reliability was only so-so. A big truck hit my Saab on the highway but she came out fine. After that she would not drive anything else. We bought a certified 9-5 Aero and then another certified 9-3. We test drove other cars but returned to Saab. We were ... Read More...
