I'm considering purchasing a 2005 9-5 w/~24K miles. The asking price is ~$15k. I test drove it and liked it. It seems in pristine condition and for the year it has relatively low mileage. My question is with regards to maintenance. I have tried to get an idea of yearly maintenance, but I can't get good answers. Then I heard Saab was going out of business. I thought I would run ... You can do your research to tell for sure but buying Saabs used is a great way to go - if they check out mechanically. Like you (now I've owned two used Saabs), when I bought my first used Saab I couldn't believe the value I got for the money. I payed $8500 for a 2000, (in 2005), and $6900 for a 1999 the next year, (totalled my first). The ride ... Read More
The response you got from the dealer doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not a mechanic, but my understanding of how these systems work is that when a "check engine" light goes on, a trouble code is stored in the computer, which the dealer (or anyone else who knows how to do it, actually) ought to be able to access with his diagnostic equipment. You might even want to poke ... Read More
Just bought a 2006 Saab. Has the nav system, but no DVD came with the car. Are all DVD's compatible. For example, can I buy a 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008 DVD and it will work. I plan on buying at ebay, is that a wise move?
My 2005 SAAB 9-5 wagon has been trouble from the beginning. The freeze plug blew, had to have a new engine. The belts all broke, had to be towed, and the fuse which powers the SID unit goes out ever six to eight weeks. I give ultimate credit to the dealer in Atlanta as the service department at Jim Ellis has been superb in trying to make this work. I did ... Read More
My husband and I purchased a 2001 SAAB 9.5 new in Oct. 2001, drawn to the auto for it's safety rating. In Oct. 2005 I received a letter from SAAB informing me that the IDM was defective on the SAAB 9.5's. The letter stated what to watch for and to immediately stop driving the car and get service if the engine started firing on only 3 cylinders. They said I would ... Read More
If the turbo was not the problem...we have a 2001 9.5 six cylinder..there was a recall on the IDM's in the 9.5, although SAAB has said it didn't relate to the 6 cylinder, both the IDM's in my 9.5 went out...one in Nov 2005 shortly after receiving the written notification that the IDM's were defective (SAAB paid for the replacement). They refused to replace the other IDM saying it wasn't defective, ... Read More
I bought a used 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero in January 2005 from an independent mechanic with whom I have been doing business since 1991. The car was just off lease and had 35,000 miles. At 49,132 miles I took it to a Saab dealer for the "looseness" in the front end or steering column. They found nothing (of course) The warranty expired at 50,000 Miles. At 53,000+ miles, I took it ... Read More
I own a 2005 9-5 sedan that I picked up used with very low miles this summer (13K). I had a 91 900T for about 12 years, and a great Saab mechanic. I was looking for a nice replacement vehicle and he warned me to absolutely stay away from the v-6 Opel derived turbo, he said it was an ancient design and incredibly hard to work on and significantly less reliable ... I am planning to return my 2005 Saab 95 series 2.3 T lease ( two months early). I desire to lease a similar 2007 model. List price is $37,000. with a $34,000. selling price. I have been quoted: $1,500. down $415. plus tax for 39 months. Isn't this too high considering Saab is offering $419. per month with $2,000. down for 27 months?
Hello, My SAAB 2005 9-5 Sport wagon has a SID unit that has failed a total of six times. The car has spent more time at the dealer than at my garage. It had to have a new engine after only six weeks of ownership as the freeze plug blew and the engine was starved of oil. The engine seems fine now, but the SID unit failure is a pain in ... Read More
Due to some of the misinformation over the last several months I have copied several posts from last summer from the European Delivery Board. We purchased a 2002 BMW 530i, Sport Package, 5 speed through BMW's European Delivery Program. Delivered on July 4, 2002. This July 6th we will take delivery of a 2005 Saab 9-3 Arc Convertible; July 4th did not work with our travel schedule. BMWs are discounted 7% ... Read More
Well I have been trolling this board because my 2005 six-month-old Toyota 4runner has been dead and flatbedded to the dealer since last Friday. So despite Toyota's rep, I have had a 100% failure rate with Toyota products. And it's a boring vehicle to drive.
I have a 2005 9-5 Arc Wagon and am utterly confused by the owner's manual as well as several "Saab service advisors" from different dealerships regarding proper tire pressure. The manual first states, "Look on driver's door jam," which lists 42/39 psi front rear; then the manual lists 33/32 psi for light load and 36/35 psi for heavy load on the last page. One advisor recommends 36 all around, another recommends ... Read More
I have a 2004 BMW 325 and a 2005 9-5 Sportwagon. We (my wife and I) never drive the BMW anymore except to commute. The ride is AWFUL and the seats are very hard. BMW does make a very solid car. I have had no mechanical problems with the BMW. The only really annoying thing about the BMW is that the front windows creak while driving. Oh, and the paint discolors ... Read More
Hi sah2. I would be happy to give you an idea of what Saab's lease program on this car is currently like. However, in order to estimate what its lease payment should be for you I need you to provide me with the full MSRP including the destination charge) and an approximate selling price for the exact car that you want. If you were to lease a 2005 Saab 9-5 Aero ... Read More
Due for a refresh ...YES,poor reliability record ...You better check on that one!Saab 9-5 has the best reliability record of any mid-size or larger European sedan.
Its true. Here in CT there are dealing Saab 9-5s with a list price of $39K for $27K
Thanks for the additional information, zoozeek. Let's calculate a sample lease payment on this car for you. According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2005 Saab 9-5 Arc Wagon with an MSRP of $38,020 and a selling price of $31,311 through Saab Financial Services Corp. right now for 24 months with 12,000 miles per year, its zero down, pre-tax monthly payment should be around $444. I just heard that Saab has increased the factory rebate on the 9-5 to $6000, in addition to the GM Employee Price. Is this correct? (I can't seem to find this info on edmunds.com.)
Hi lmiller. The 2005 Saab 9-5 still qualifies for General Motors' employee pricing program, so the selling price that you saw quoted for it last month is probably still about the same. GM is currently providing $3,000 lease cash on all 2005 9-5 models. If you were to lease a 2005 Saab 9-5 Aero Sedan through Saab Financial Services Corp. right now for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year, its ... Read More
Hi zoozeek. It is a good idea to lease tha Saab 9-5 that you are interested in. Traditionally Saab has offered very attractive leases on its vehicles and the '05 9-5 right now is no exception. It is a lot of car for the money. Since you are new to the world of leasing, you definitely should check out the following informative articles that are available here at Edmunds.com prior to ... jigga 6886, The ignition cassette is important and you do need to have it replaced - properly - to avoid a complete failure and to protect the catalytic converter from burning up. In Dec. 2004, at 51,000 miles, my 2000 95 had a complete failure between two hairpin, blind curves on a two lane mountain road. We are very fortunate that this didn't cause a head or rear on collision. In ... Read More

Congrats Wilb! You'll love the Saab. We're nearing the end with our 3rd Saab, 2002 Steel Grey Wagon. This one is a lease and I DON'T want to turn it in. Glad they made it straight for you. Knock on wood our newer 2003 Aero Wagon has been perfect thus far. We'll see in 60K or so though. Consumer Digest and some others have noted that the quality improved dramatically from 2002 onwards. If you don't go with Saab there is Subaru if you need a wagon. The redesigned 2005 is supposed to be killer. The Mazda 6 wagon is supposed to ... Read More
