There are quite a few Technical Service Bulletins on this problem related to the air mixing damper shaft within the heating/AC system. The dealer should be able to readily call up all the instructions he needs to fix the problem. This has been an issue for a long time, now solved. After 280K miles in a 2000 9-5 I now have a 2007 9-5. After 6,500 miles.....NO BRAKE DUST!! Nothing...nada! Contact eEuroparts for Saab OEM and Akebono ceramic pads (no dust). You can leave the dust behind you.

I just bought this car a couple months ago, and I love it. Does anybody know if there are any brake pads out there on the market that don't cause my front rims to get black after a few days of driving? I'm not certain, but I think the front brake pads are Saab brand. Thanks, --Jim

Well its not a "certified" 9-5 but i have seen some 2004 certified saab's so im guessing certification is based on weather the dealership wants to certify the car or not. Do you REALLY want that BMW 325?
I have a 2004 BMW 325 and a 2005 9-5 Sportwagon. We (my wife and I) never drive the BMW anymore except to commute. The ride is AWFUL and the seats are very hard. BMW does make a very solid car. jigga 6886, The ignition cassette is important and you do need to have it replaced - properly - to avoid a complete failure and to protect the catalytic converter from burning up. The throttle body was replaced only once. The second time the car started to idle really rough the dealer send the connection was no good. This has happened to me 3 times on my Saab 95 (1999)----Dec 2003, May 2004 and today....just stalls...once onthe highway luckily was heavy traffic so no one hit me....no warning...engine lite comes on and stops....should we write into NHTSA's Office of Defects to complain not sure how the process works with them..

I just bought a new 2004 SAAB 9-5 Wagon. We recently had some big rain storms and I noticed that the rear hatch is leaking. The dealer says that every thing looks OK, but I believe that there is a slow drip coming down from the top. Is anyone else have the same problem?

Saab has a lot of manufacturer to dealer incentives. I heard there is a $6500 incentive for 9-5 Aero sedan ($7000 for aero wagon) until the end of this month so I expect the Arc has similar incentive.

I just visited my local Saab dealership today. They have a "new" 2004 9-5 Arc that has roughly 5000 miles on it (was a dealer's car). It is an auto with the premium package. Knock on wood, our 2003 Aero wagon is running great. Is yours a 2003 or 2004 Aero? Talk to the dealer but also send a note to Saab thru their website. Saab can't afford a reputation for quality problems, particularly on their flagship. They were already fighting a bad quality rep form the cars in the 80's and early 90's. Hey there.... What I meant by extra options were aftermarket stuff... On the model I have, there were extra cupholder slots in the doors. You couldn't get the attachments here in the US but could in Sweden. As for the diesels, they are Euro spec'd...not for the US market. Aside from paint color, wheels, minor skin work, is there any reason to not get a new '03? Also, I want to put a Nokia phone in, is it better in the long run to go with the Nokia Hands Free kit or does Saab still have the phone wiring kit, would that be a better route?

I dont mean to overstate to V6 I4 issue, and the 2004 Aero engine was impressive at speed. However, my 9-5 SE with a V6 was a fabulous value proposition when I got it compared to the competition, IMO, and notwithstanding Edmunds somewhat "crabby" reviews of the car. I am driving a 2001 9-3 too. I think 2003 9-5 Aero is around $34-35K now because of the incentive. It's probably a better deal than the 2004 9-5 Arc now. I hope Saab will use the concept AWD Sport wagon as the new 9-3SS Viggen and put at least 300hp to the 9-5 Aero.

Aero 2004 is the same as 2003. I bought my 2003 2 months ago and got $6000 off. Could have been more, but the dealer had to find the right car for me. I'm very happy with my choice over anything else out there i.e. Audi, BMW or Infiniti. I am planning on getting an extended warranty just in case. Saab Aero is a great value, but it will depreciate.

I drove both the 4 and 6 and I preffered the 6 (auto trans). 6 is a much smoother engine....the 4 cyl was a bit buzzy and the torque of the 6 (vs the 4) meant that there was less downshifting. Your friends comment about the 6 vs. 4 is bogus. The Saab 4 is a GREAT engine and will probably out last the 6 currently in use. However, it produces 220hp, which is apparently the "Goldilocks" amount of turbo charging between the Linear and the Aero.
