SAAB is a great car, or was a great car. I have owned six of them since 1991. That many miles could be a problem as lots of issues may present themselves. Buyer beware.
There are quite a few Technical Service Bulletins on this problem related to the air mixing damper shaft within the heating/AC system. The dealer should be able to readily call up all the instructions he needs to fix the problem. Looks like some little plasticky parts are involved and maybe an hour labor---at least just from looking at the instructions. So maybe couple hundred bucks? Good Ceramic brake pads will solve your problem.
Just speculating here on Saab CPOs which go for six years or 100K from date of service. I think it's correct to say that right now Saab will only CPO cars that are 2004 or newer. But suppose that an '03 Saab had been turned in at the end of its lease, been CPOed (good for 6 years or 100K) and resold. Then suppose the second owner in 2008 trades it ... Read More
This has been an issue for a long time, now solved. After 280K miles in a 2000 9-5 I now have a 2007 9-5. After 6,500 miles.....NO BRAKE DUST!! Nothing...nada! Contact eEuroparts for Saab OEM and Akebono ceramic pads (no dust). You can leave the dust behind you.
I just bought this car a couple months ago, and I love it. Does anybody know if there are any brake pads out there on the market that don't cause my front rims to get black after a few days of driving? I'm not certain, but I think the front brake pads are Saab brand. Thanks, --Jim
Well its not a "certified" 9-5 but i have seen some 2004 certified saab's so im guessing certification is based on weather the dealership wants to certify the car or not. Yes i am buying the car from a Saab Dealership and i wanted more warranty coverage than the standard. Can i ask the dealership the "certify" the car? Or would i be better off just purchasing an extended warranty? why ... Read More

folks, I've got a 2004 Aero 9-5 Wagon that has about 18 months to go on a 4 year lease. So far, unlike my prior Saabs, this car has been flawless. I'm wondering if someone else out there is having the same problem as I am with my 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero. Overall it has been a GREAT car with one exeption: I have owned it for 18 months and have replaced 6 (six) Pirelli Z rated tires on it. I keep getting bulges in the sidewall(s) that the manufacturer calls road damage and won't replace. We Live in Richmond Virginia (no ... Read More
I have a 2004 BMW 325 and a 2005 9-5 Sportwagon. We (my wife and I) never drive the BMW anymore except to commute. The ride is AWFUL and the seats are very hard. BMW does make a very solid car. I have had no mechanical problems with the BMW. The only really annoying thing about the BMW is that the front windows creak while driving. Oh, and the paint discolors ... Read More
I am buying a 2006 BMW 325 and trading my 2004 SAAB Arc Wagon. SAAB has 10,000 totally trouble free miles, I get 18-32mpg on Hi Test. Most will recommend Aero but I like the softer ride and more comfy (for me) headrests, and lower price of the Arc/SE V-6. I like the 2002-2003 Arc's as they had many features (heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, weather channel, improved crash ratings, 5 speed automatic, great stereo, etc.) that were not available on the 1999-2001 or were "decontented" in the 2004 version when they went to the 4. Perhaps I am totally unique to this opinion, but since my husband purchased his 9-5 in 2004, the memory settings on the mirrors have not worked properly. Still no movement in the driver's side mirror when changing from driver 1 setting to driver 2. Finally, the service rep conferred with a ... Read More

Guys, I am planning to buy a 2001 saab se from a private seller. Its done 49000 miles and almost completed the warranty. The car is good in condition except that the seller has no service records after mar 2004. Whats a good price for this car? Thank You, Nitin
I live in central Iowa and the Saab dealers are less than sales/service excellent. Where did you buy yours?
I just bought a new 2004 SAAB 9-5 Wagon. We recently had some big rain storms and I noticed that the rear hatch is leaking. The dealer says that every thing looks OK, but I believe that there is a slow drip coming down from the top. Is anyone else have the same problem?
I currently drive a Volvo, and am looking to replace the car with something new. I thought that I'd naturally end up with another Volvo but decided to visit the local Saab dealership (although I've always found Saab pricing to be extremely high). Saab has a lot of manufacturer to dealer incentives. I heard there is a $6500 incentive for 9-5 Aero sedan ($7000 for aero wagon) until the end of this month so I expect the Arc has similar incentive.
I just visited my local Saab dealership today. They have a "new" 2004 9-5 Arc that has roughly 5000 miles on it (was a dealer's car). It is an auto with the premium package. Asking price is $28,004 - original sticker was $37,950. The drop in price almost seems too large - does this seem abnormal? Or maybe they are asking too much for a demo with that amount of miles? ... Knock on wood, our 2003 Aero wagon is running great. Is yours a 2003 or 2004 Aero? Talk to the dealer but also send a note to Saab thru their website. The dealer emailed me a purchase price on the 2004 Aero (loaded to the gills) that ostensibly took into account the GM supplier discount--but in the process another $2800 of the originally advertised discount disappeared, making it a wash. Serious as a heart attack! The dealer (Saab of Santa Ana) clearly posted the sale prices in the cars. Aero was indeed $8000 below sticker, Arc $7000 below. These are new 2004 models. I liked the features (esp. side bolstering on the seats) and driving characteristics better on the Aero but I agree about the 17" wheels and ultra-low profile tires; they ... Read More
Brenda, I've had 2 Saabs and like them a lot. I prefer the auto to the stick for congested freeway driving. Consumer Reports recommends the 9-5 for reliability; some authorities point out that the current 9-5, as good as it is, is gradually becoming obsolete in comparison with new stars like the Acura TL or the excellent but overpriced BMWs. Regarding the SFSC inspection of our 2001 9-5 SE Wagon, we may have gotten lucky. I asked that this discussion be reopened, as we are considering buying a 2004 9-5 Linear Sport Wagon through this program. Has anyone purchased a car through this program lately? Aside from paint color, wheels, minor skin work, is there any reason to not get a new '03? Also, I want to put a Nokia phone in, is it better in the long run to go with the Nokia Hands Free kit or does Saab still have the phone wiring kit, would that be a better route?

I dont mean to overstate to V6 I4 issue, and the 2004 Aero engine was impressive at speed. However, my 9-5 SE with a V6 was a fabulous value proposition when I got it compared to the competition, IMO, and notwithstanding Edmunds somewhat "crabby" reviews of the car. I am driving a 2001 9-3 too. I think 2003 9-5 Aero is around $34-35K now because of the incentive. It's probably a better deal than the 2004 9-5 Arc now. I hope Saab will use the concept AWD Sport wagon as the new 9-3SS Viggen and put at least 300hp to the 9-5 Aero.
I just found out from Edmunds there will be no more 9-5 Linear. It seems that Saab thew away the GM V6 again (They did it once for the 9-3). That's the thing I liked. I drove both the 4 and 6 and I preffered the 6 (auto trans). 6 is a much smoother engine....the 4 cyl was a bit buzzy and the torque of the 6 (vs the 4) meant that there was less downshifting. Ask and ye shall receive - the changes for 2004 9-5's: http://media.gm.com/division/2004_prodinfo/saab/9-5/index.html Most notably, the Arc will be dropping the V-6 and switching to the same 2.3t 4-cylinder engine used by the other two designs. However, it produces 220hp, which is apparently the "Goldilocks" amount of turbo charging between the Linear and the Aero.
Saab Aero vs. Volvo V70 T5 (or 2.5T). I have been looking for a couple of months now. Tough decision, especially since Volvo has gone to scheduled maintenance at no charge for 2004. I am leaning towards the Saab but the Volvo seems like the rear cargo area is larger since the wheel wells dont intrude into the rear cargo compartment. Performance seems to be similar between the T5 and Aero. ... Read More
