There are quite a few Technical Service Bulletins on this problem related to the air mixing damper shaft within the heating/AC system. The dealer should be able to readily call up all the instructions he needs to fix the problem. Looks like some little plasticky parts are involved and maybe an hour labor---at least just from looking at the instructions. So maybe couple hundred bucks? My 95 hot aero estate auto (2000) developed this problem. I had the oil changed and it kept it going for a few more months before the problem recurred. In the end the issue was addressed by changing the gearbox valve rather than the whole unit. I drove it for another year without any sign of trouble.....cost about £750 to fix.
Heater stopped working, is there a thermostat and where is it located? Any help would be appreciated. Already recalibrated the panel only number was 0. Thank you
If you have a problem with cold air on one side and hot air on the other side this is a major defect in by the manufacturer and should be fix at SAAB's expense. No extended warranty will cover. We have to make a class action suit against SAAB if they do not take responsibility for defect in there manufacturing of of the 2000 9.5 SE model's air conditioning system.
I suggest we get a lot of us 2000 9.5 SAAB owners to start a class action law suit against SAAB USA to make them make the corrections to the defective electronic system and the gasket heads they have on the engines. They delivered a flawed product to us and we deserve to have them correct what was obviously a mechanical flaw in the manufacturing of the 2000 SAAB 9.5. Lets ... Read More
You can do your research to tell for sure but buying Saabs used is a great way to go - if they check out mechanically. I payed $8500 for a 2000, (in 2005), and $6900 for a 1999 the next year, (totalled my first). The ride ... Read More

My 2000 Saab 9-5 Hot Aero Estate has developed a similar problem. I had the transmission oil changed and that fixed the slipping for 6 months but now it has returned. Not sure what is best. I have only noticed the problem when cold and in reverse and 1-2. Once the car has warmed up it functions normally and I haven't noticed any slippage 2-3. Did you fix your problem?
I am in the process of replacing my heater bypass valve. Does anyone know of any special precautions for refilling the cooling system. My older saabs had air valves which allowed all the air to escape when refilling. Please let me know your experience. thank you. BTW 99K and extremely satisfied with my car

I am on my 3rd 9.5. First two (2000 and 2002) we're V-6 powered, my 2007 is, of course a 2.3 260 HP turbo, Aero in this case. I used to be annoyed when folks picked on the V-6, I loved the power and smoothness of that engine, although that asymetrical turbo seemed to cause a weird "elastic" throttle response. I have a 2000 Saab 9-5 that is possibly in need of a ABS Control Module. The dealership quoted me a price of $2,500.00. It seems that I can get a used, or possibly refurbished one for between $200-$300. Labor cost for installation is $300. It seems worth trying a used or refurbished part. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks, Scott
Jeff, We just purchased a Saab through IDS and financed it with a conventional car loan from our Credit Union. We had to wait for Saab to provide us the VIN number to finalize the loan. Three days after paying for the car, we received the $2000.00 check from Saab in the mail. Scheduled to pick up the car in Germany, second week of June.
I'd go back to the dealer. Strategy: don't let the dealer get into a cycle of replacing the same Saab part and sending you on your merry way. Follow the common-sense theory that it's unlikely for the same part to fail repeatedly (whether it's the infamous DI casette or whatever) so the problem has to be elsewhere in the system that the failing part is a piece of. Avoid coming across ... Read More

i have always been told by experienced mechanics that a saab is a car that you must sell at 60,000 miles or it will nickel and dime you to death...... my experience with the aero 2000 has been so-so. new computer 4 times ,new fan for the motor, left me stranded ..... and other.about 6 other failures. now ,at 51,000 miles ,(4 weeks ago or so ) my dealer told me that ... Here is my background- I have always driven Japanese cars. I usually buy them two years old with some mileage and drive them for about 5 or 6 years at 20,000 per year. My last car was a Nissan Maxima with 130,000 miles and not one problem until it was stolen last week. I looked at another used Maxima but decided it was time for a change. I was considering a ... decisions, decisions...after looking forever, I am closing in on purchasing used and need help....any opinions on getting a used 9-3 versus used 9-5...and whether 2000 year is superior to 1999 model year for either...I like look and smaller feel of 9-3 but have heard some people comment on how 9-5 is THE Saab to get....all opinions would be helpful, thanks...
my 2000 aero with 55,000 miles has 4/32 nd left on the tires from 11/32 nd when new. this is about 60 % wear. but in about another 5m miles i will need to get tires, the thread wear is only 3/32 away. currently i have the oea michelin mmx. thinking of going to the goodyear f1 tire. has anyone tried this tire as yet ???? and if so --results ???? the ... Happy to say I am the new owner of a 1999 Saab 9-5 Wagon, black with charcoal interior, 6 cylinder and almost any option you can mention! It has 90,000 km. on it and we purchased the extended warranty for it. Dealer seemed miffed I had checked the car out through Carfax and has all my info with me when we talked with him. They leant the car to me for ... Read More
I am new to this forum and am researching used 9-5s (2000-2002). I have traditionally purchased acuras and love the turnkey/almost zero maintenance lifetime experience, however, I would like to try the european experience because the cars feel so great on the road and the look of the cars. I began to research European sedans and was immediately drawn to the 9-5. The A-4 also seemed interesting but I simply preferred ... Read More
We have a 2000 Saab 95 with 55,000 miles on it (it's actually my wife's car). I was just told by the dealer that both front wheel bearings need to be replaced at a cost of approximately $350.00 each. When I asked why they had to be replaced so early in the car's life, the service representative mumbled something about possibly hitting a few potholes. This seems a bit suspicious to ... Read More
I have finally moved out of my 2000 Saab 9-5SE and into my MB C320. What an improvement in quality. Apparently, Saab does not realize that they took my 9-5 back two months ago and sent me a recall notice on the 9-5. If I have this right, Saab is claiming that the nuts and bolts that hold the tires on the 9-5 can "rust through" and break if certain types ... Read More
From your name "brentwood Volvo" and fact that you post here, I was thinking maybe you might also have a Saab Dealership there... Obviously not the case... The color your asking about is a fairly popular one for Saab called Sun Green. No color for the 9-5 beats the Steel Grey though ;) As far as Volvo's are concerned.. sorry bout your luck there with 2000 New Volvo SUV's ending up ... Read More
Hello there, Just wondering if 20000 for a 2000 Saab 95 V6 SE approx. 25500 miles in Boston area is a good deal ? I loved the test drive. Thanks.
Hi fellow Saab folks...2000 9-5 2.3 here. At about 25-35mph I hear a distinct cyclical thrumming from the front end. Don't really know how else to describe the sound. It's not the tires...I recently replaced them, but the sound is the same before and after. Also hearing a distinct crunching sound in the front suspension over bumps when the car is cold. My normally excellent dealer "can't recreate the problem" that ... Read More

Was planning on another Saab, this time buying an Aero (I have a 2000 9-5 SE coming up to lease-end). Local dealer still has a new 2002 Aero 5-spd that he offered for $31,500 (MSRP is $40K and change). This includes $500 owner loyalty and what I think is a hefty discount. Am concerned only about the reputed turbo lag and sloppy shifting, which my brief test drive seemed to confirm. ... Read More
The turbo on my 2000 95 had to be replaced at ~ 32K. If you're inclined towards a Saab I would put a lot of value on the warranty.
I am still debating between a new 9-3 or a used (1999-2000) 9-5 or 9-3. I just read a website and it said one of the thing to watch out for when buying a used Saab is rust? Anybody have rust problems with their Saab? I checked out some used Saabs over the weekend and saw some of them have rusts in the brakes? Is that possible? What about the turbo ... Read More
Today in New York, I had my first real expereince driving my 2000 Saab wagon in snow, perhaps 6 inches with slippery conditions. It was a great and possibly dangerous disappointment. I have had an Audi so I have something to compare it to. The front end shimmied back and forthon accleration, I had trouble getting traction on slight inclines and I nearly lost control on a right hand turn as ... Read More
Hi, Thanks for your many ideas. I love the look of the wagons. They just look so sleek compared to all the others, but I talked to my banker and a new one, even with discounts is out of the question. So I'm looking at used passat 4 motions, or a new Legacy. I even looked up leasebusters, which have an awful lot of people trying to get out of Saab ... Read More
I have a 2000 9-5 Aero wagon, 5-speed, and my lease expires in 5 months so I'm right with you on timing. The only problem I've had with my 9-5 has been the battery failing (sounds like yours). Funny--this is the third Saab I've owned and two of them had to have batteries replaced (both under warranty). I really like the car. The BMW is nice but seems underpowered to me ... Read More
