Hi I just brought a 2005 Saab 9-3 with 49,000 miles - driver's car but suspension is a little on the rough side - not a biggie. But some minor details are driving me nuts. Some of buttons on the climate and audio need to be replaced as well as the button to open the glove box and the black door handle wells are worn but I can't seem to find ... Read More
I have a 2005 Saab 9-3 convertible. I love it. I love the convertible, and on a warm sunny day it makes my life very good. It is true of course that 'things' don't make happiness, and that happiness comes from within. But when you drive a Saab 9-3 convertible on a warm sunny day with the top down, life is happy. I love the 4-cylinder turbo. The car really moves ... Read More
My wife has a 2005 9-3 Arc Convertible with 60k miles. Mobil 1 has been used exclusively, it was European Delivered and has had no issues except the power steering pump.
There is a caveat. I bought such a warranty, and then brought my car in and was told there was an engine leak that would cost $2100 to fix. Since the leak "had to have been there for a while", the insurance would not cover it. On the other hand, the 6 cd carousel in my saab went out at 54K, the dealer wants $1200 to replace. My mechanic found a ... Read More
Has anyone else had a problem with the six cd shuttle jamming on their SAAB 9-3. Has anyone had any success removing it themselves? If so how did you do it. I know that bringing it to the dealer, it will cost a fortune to fix. Bummer, my car has 54K miles on it. so near and yet so far.
2005 Saab 9-3 2.0T Sedan. 48, 000 miles. The factory warranty will expire in the end of Aug 2009. The dealer is offering bumper to bumper extended warranty: $1,680 for 2 year or 24,000 miles, plus $200 deductible each visit, or $2,125 for 3 years or 36000 miles, +$200 deductible each visit. I have had two recent Saabs. My 2005 9-3 2.0t small turbo had few problems except needed rear brakes at 20,000 miles. Other than that, a few bulbs burned out..but that was it. The car got great mileage and was very comfy. Handling was not great. The car leaned like crazy in turns..very disappointing. It felt like they left out half of the suspension. Had the car into Saab dealer for ... Read More

We have a 2003 9-3 Linear (42k miles) which is really a fun car to drive (my wife particularly loves it). But I've almost had it with maintenance issues. Mechanically the car has performed almost flawlessly, but the lesser issues have begun to kill us. Here's what's gone wrong over the years: 1. 2003: TCS module went bad, replaced under warranty. 2. 2004 or 2005: many burned out headlight bulbs, followed ... Read More
A lot of people refer to the 2006 2.0T model as the "Arc", as the Arc models of 2003-2005 had the same 2.0T 210 hp. engine, while the Linear had a smaller 2.0t (175 hp) engine... So the terms Arc and 2.0T can be used interchangeably. I'd offer $18,500, see where they counter, and settle on $19K, before taxes. A lot of the '07s and '08s are going at fire sale ... Read More
I had front and rear pads changed by dealer at 28,400 miles. 45,000 inspection found need for rear rotors and pads at 47,500 miles. Why 28,500 for first set pad alone, only 19,000 for rears and need pads and rotors. Black brake dust on wheels a problem from less than 1,000 miles. Majority ... Read More
I hope this reply isn't too late. I have a 2005 9-3, essentially the same design as the current 9-3. The ride is fairly quiet; I have no problem having a cell phone conversation while driving. Does anyone know why Saab discontinued the 9-3 1.8T engine in the linear? The rated gas mileage for the smaller engine is 32 highway, and only 29 for the larger engine, that is a 10% difference. You have two great cars to choose from. I considered both before picking my car, a 2005 Saab 2.0 Linear. I ended up buying it from Carmax for price versus the dealer. Apparently, my local Saab dealer doesn't mind keeping overpriced, used cars on their lot (I was even willing to pay $500 over the Edmunds TMV's price, they refused). I test drove the Aero and was told the only difference ... Read More
I just bought a creampuff today. A 2005 2.0T Linear with only 10k miles on it. Immaculate condition. CPO. $18,000. I am a very high mileage driver and wanted good fuel economy. Finding a low miles car already depreciated fits me well. Edmunds had dealer retail around 18 and CPO a little over 20. Basically I have 90,000 miles of warranty left. Gary
I have a 2005 9-3 Arc, and had oil leaks. Something in the head had to be replaced. Warning, it would have been outrageous if not under warranty. Otherwise things are fine.
I bought my 2005 Saab Linear 9-3 (19k miles) a couple weeks ago from Carmax. Had no problems until I noticed a "squeaking" noise coming from either the front or the back while sitting in traffic. I noticed it only did it after the car had been running on the highway for about 20 minutes. Otherwise, no noise. I took the car back to Carmax, of course the car didn't make ... Read More
I am currently shopping '05 and '06 9-3's. From what I can tell, they're a great value car (LOTS of safety features, decent gas mileage, drive well, sporty look etc.) Why is it then, when I mention the word Saab to anyone, I get the ominous "they're notorious for being in the shop." Is this true?
I too, have a 2005 Saab, 9-3. I needed to have one of the heads replaced, due to excessive leaks. I have slightly under 30K miles. This is not good news. If anyone else has leaks--especially if you're still under warranty, TAKE CARE OF IT RIGHT AWAY. I'd also like to know. Thanks
I have a 2005 Saab 9-3 and just found out that I have to replace the rear brakes. The kicker is that my car only has 23K miles on it and the front brakes are fine. The service manager told me that Saab "tweaked" the brakes to reduce pad dust and improve braking at the expense of the rear brakes wearing out prematurely. This is a bummer, especially since the dealer ... Read More
Ok, I’ve decided to buy a Saab and was originally looking at the 2005s, and honestly between the test drives, I almost liked the Linear more than I did the Arc, is there something I’m missing? I am looking to buy my first Saab ever. I like the 9-3 Aero's for 2005 and newer. Even if another GM Dealer will work on a Saab, that is the last person you want to touch it. I would be very surprised if there are any common parts at all. Do not worry about reliability. My dealer, JMK Saab in Springfield, NJ, told me that it is completely unnecessary to change the oil any more frequently than once every 15,000 miles (when the service indicator light comes on.) Your statement is 100% IMO about Saabs AND, they do make a lot of trips to the shop. I bought mine at 22k miles 18 months ago. I have 50k on it now. I have a 2005 9-3 linear (manual) with 28K miles and the rear brakes needed replacement which is almost unheard of. One would expect the front brakes to go before the rear brakes. We are looking at purchasing a 2005 Saab 9.3. Everything I read says it requires Premium gasoline but the dealer says it can use regular unleaded. What do you use?
Those "solid black side moldings" conspicuously missing from the 2008 are the reason my 2002 is unmarked after 55K in an urban environment. My other car, a 2003 Avalon, was introduced as a new model in 2005, again without side moldings. Guess what the #1 dealer-installed option became.
I have a 2005 Arc with the 2T turbo engine that I bought new. Saab dropped the Arc name in 2006, but I think you can still get the Arc features and options today. $1495 is a little expensive for the extended maintenance plan. You can purchase this any time from any BMW dealer, until the car reaches 4yr/50K miles. As for CR, I've found them to be relatively on-target, when considering all the data from a broad spectrum. As always, your mileage (experience) may vary. I bought a 2005 9-3 Linear (auto trans) in June 2005. Paid $24.5k before TTL. I am pleased with it. My only real complaint is the stereo. It is extremely weak. I have a 2005 9-3 Arc (the same as the 2006 2.0T model) with the drivers package. In my experience, it has plenty of performance, good handling, and luxury. The Aero may be more than what you need. Also, placing a car with more power and speed than the 2.0T in to the hands of high school aged driver could be dangerous. Good luck!
ok, stupid question - did Saab eliminate one of the 9-3 models (the top end) for 2006? 2005 was Linear, Arc, Aero, right? (I'm thinking about the convertible)
I may still get a 2006 instead of the 2005. The 2005 is $26,900. What I don't like about the 06 is that they make the std stereo the 150W which sounds pretty bad, it forces me to get the premium pkg to get the 300W stereo/speakers which is the only thing in the pkg I care about, the 5 disc changer, etc. I don't care about. You were wise to walk away from that (non) deal. Have you seen the pricing on the 2006's? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the base MSRP looks to be more than $4,000 cheaper. Those numbers all add up... It looks like a good deal, whichever term you go with... The $695 goes directly to the bank.. Every lease has an acquisition fee.. They are never waived, unless the bank has some kind of special promotion.. The only thing the dealer can do is increase the fee for extra profit.. So, no wiggle room.. regards, kyfdx
kyfdx -- You are correct, sir. Saab Finance acquisition fees were quoted to me at *$695* yesterday (dealing with fleet manager). So, mgz2400, looks like you may have room to play hard-ball on getting that fee reduced. Related question to the group: is even $695 etched in stone as an acquisition fee in these deals? Seems like, given it's a captive finance company (not some arms-length relationship with an outside bank), ... Read More
Since your upfront money has no tax ($53.70 is just the tax on the acq.fee), then I'd say that makes up the difference in the payment.... Sorry for omissions. Sales tax is included in all numbers I quoted earlier. And MSRP here in New England for the Arc with driver pkg, heated seats, automatic, power sunroof and metallic paint is $36,240, plus regional advertising fees of $350 and prep/handling of $150, bringing list, total total, to $36,740. If the acquisition fee is rolled into your cap cost, then I get almost the same number... So, as long as your upfront money doesn't include anything strange, like document fees or dealer prep... I was quoted the following price on a 2005 Saab 9-3 Linear w/ automatic transmission, no other options were included. Lease was for 3 yr. 36000 miles. MSRP: 29,420 Sales price: 28,473 Residual: 47% Money Factor: .00054 Lease Assistance: 3,500 Money down: 1,502.29 (tax, lic. title) Monthly payment: 350.39 The dealer stated this price includes my GM supplier discount.
1) I can't check their lease numbers, because you didn't give the MSRP.. Residuals are figured on MSRP 2) Do the lease payments include sales tax? Even if they don't, they both look like good deals... great deals if they include tax. 3) Do you like to switch cars a lot, or are you looking to lock in a good lease price, once you find one? I kind of like that ... Read More

Hi I was quoted the following price: 2005 Saab 9-3 Arc/Parchment Silver metallic paint/Automatic/Sunroof: MSRP -> $33045. Net Cash Deal - 26K + 2K (for tax and title fees) ===> 28K There was hardly a negotiation. We test drove and the sales lady gave us this price. My wife and I wanted to do some comparison shopping before we buy it. What you think of this price? Also if we want ... Read More

$4000 sounds like a lot.. But, Saab puts big incentives on their cars.. Check with Car_man on this board, and he can let you know the incentives available on your model.. Car_man, "Rebates, Incentives, APRs - Questions & Comments" #2714, 28 Mar 2005 7:38 pm It doesn't sound like you know a lot about this car.. I'd want to know the exact MSRP and options... Your description sounds a little vague.. ... Read More
I've had my 9-3 Linear since 11/2002. I now have 31,000 miles. The following is a list of the problems I've had so far: 2/2/2005 30,900 Miles Turbo problem occurs again. No boost. Suspension making a lot of noise going over bumps. Will have dealer check out both problems. 1/12/2005 30,191 Miles Turbo problem. No boost. Dealer repaired loose wire on pressure sensor. 1/12/2005 30,191 Miles Fuel filler cap fails, causing ... Read More
I can't decide between the new 2005 Acura TSX and a 2004 9-3 with low mileage. I'd buy a 2004 TSX but I can't find one in my area. I've always loved Saabs, but everyone I know who's owned one has told me to go with the TSX. Is buying the 9-3 a gamble? Also, since GM purchased Saab, are the maintence costs lower? My sister has a '95 Saab and ... Read More
I am in the market for leasing a 2005 9-3 linear and have been told that Saab is giving $2500 leash cash. Does anyone know of this deal? Does this mean you get $2500 off whatever price you negotiate? Also what are people getting a base 2005 linear without any extras for these days? I saw one post for 23k which is about $3k off invoice. Is this the norm? Thanks ... Read More
Long time lurker on the Saab, Mazda, and Acura boards. Had narrowed down my choice of cars to a Mazda 6, Acura TSX, and Saab 93 Linear. After test driving all three I couldn't stop smiling or talking about the Saab. Ended up buying one on Saturday. 2005 Saab 93 Linear in Smoke Metallic Beige. Best handling car I've ever owned, and now I'm trying to find excuses to go to ... Read More
I have been reading this site for a few months now & have not contributed. I bought a 9-3 Linear on December 30th. It's steel grey. I got the moonroof, heated seats, metallic paint, & 5 speed(!). I already have 1400 miles on it. I luv it!! I was deciding between BMW 325i & the Saab. I thought BMW was more luxurious & ...hell, it's a nice ride! I had one ... Read More
Hey guys... I'm currently deciding between a 2005 Volvo S40 or the SAAB 9-3 Arc. Off hand it seems like I am getting more with the Volvo for the price, but part of me is thinking that it is because it bases for less and there is more room for me to get options and packages. I am planning on keeping the car, so reliability is VERY important (I am spoilded ... Read More
Congrads. Arc is better, anyway!
I tried to order a 2005 9-3 Linear through the military program, but they deleted auto-climate as an option, no more head lamp washers as part of the cold weather, body sills are not available in body color (only black), and no fog lights. To many changes so I bought a 2004 Arc they had available. Everything except xenon, park assist, and sport wheel package for $29,700.
The major change will be Navigation but they are also getting rid of the 6-speed manual and replacing it with a 5-speed manual in the U.S. Have there been problems with this transmission? Why get rid of the 6-speed in the U.S.????
The major change is that the '05 will have Navigation available in US. And 3 new colors. Full details here: http://media.gm.com:8221/division/2005_prodinfo/saab/9-3/
The local dealer told me that there wasn't any major changes. Paul
I am in the market for a sports sedan around $35k. I have driven the Acura TL and TSX, IS 300, the new Volvo S40, the Maxima, and at the end of the day I am in love with the Saab 9-3. My question is what changes will be made for the 2005 9-3? Should I wait for the 2005 models to come out or search a 2004 model with all ... Read More
Where did you find out the information on the 2005 Saab? I have been searching, and have come up empty.
One more thing, the stereo in the 2005 9-3 is much improved with a completely different unit with bose speakers.
