Over time the plastic covering over the headlamps can become foggy (especially true of cars that spend a lot of time outside because of the harsh sun exposure). This cloudiness can absolutely affect your low beam performance (please dont drive with your high beams on :) ). You definitely shouldn't buy new headlight assemblies. There are products that buff the damaged top layer off. I believe one is made by a ... Read More
Headlight question: I dread driving at night with my low beams. It is like I don't even have the lights on! After washing my car I noticed the headlamp covers are getting old and starting to yellow. Could this cause a dim low beam? I was reading up on Halogen verses Xenon to see if I needed a brighter bulb. Arrrghhh, I need guidance on this. I also looked up the ... Read More
Hi Hoping someone can steer me int he right direction. I just recently pulled the 17" rims and tires off my Saab 9-3 because the ride was horrible! I had always wanted a saab. I wasn't very smart in my purchase, as I bought a '99 SE conv. I have been driving 40 years, and this is the worse car. My husband and I are a devoted Saab family. We have a 2004 9-3 and a 1999 9-3 hatchback. The 2004 has 50k miles and the 1999 has 110k. We have a 2003 9-3 Linear (42k miles) which is really a fun car to drive (my wife particularly loves it). But I've almost had it with maintenance issues. Mechanically the car has performed almost flawlessly, but the lesser issues have begun to kill us. Namaste Kohinahi, While I agree with all your assessmnents my wife has a diffrent opinion. She loves her 325i and is not a big fan of my 2004 9-3. I drive both cars and agree that the 9-3 has a much better ride and feels much quicker. The one thing I will say about the BMW is that it has much better curb appeal. People always say "nice car" to her ... Read More

Thank you all for your prompt reply!! I greatly appreciate the advice and the help with the pricing.....I'll target the invoice which I guess is kinda' close to the supplier discount less the $3500 discount. I'm not the kind of person who'll nickel and dime, as long as we get the car we want and its close to this price - I'll be happy. I'll probably have the car in the ... Read More
I bought my ARC last June at invoice minus 3,000. The dealership showed me all of the numbers and unfortunately my contact at GM lost his supplier coupon so I lost out on another few hundred off. BTW they are the only SAAB dealer for 60+ miles in any direction. I also love driving the car. One trick that has worked for me in the past is if you intend to ... Read More
Let me also share my “tipnee” (pronounce as ‘tip-knee’ – Hindi equivalent for ‘2 cents’). Ever since the TL came out in 1998 (me thinks!) that was the one car I wanted. So now that we could finally afford one we decided to test-drive (I had my checkbook with a signed blank check!) the new 2004 TL. I had just driven my buddy’s new 2003 3.2TL on which he got a ... Hi! I don't know if I'm going to be out of protocol by asking what people paid for their cars, but forums are meant to help the average consumer and so I'll take the jump and ask what people are paying for their 9-3 Arcs?? We are looking to purchase an Arc and any help with price and the corresponding detail in options would be greatly appreciated.....Currently, I think I might ... Read More
I forgot the last half of my question in the above post so here it is: Does your parking brake and matching accessory handle ( the exact word of the thing fails me at the moment but as an owner, you likely know just what I'm talking about...) have huge, rough areas of flashing along the mould parting lines? All 4 of the 9-3's I've been in had them. One was ... Read More
I've held off buying a Saab for the moment largely because I find the dash too shiny and the infotainment center too confusing for using whilst driving. After seeing the interior on the SportHatch and fully understanding that it is 'concept' material, I wondered if GM would simplify and handsomize the instrument center stack in the 9-3 series. Any idea when/if this may happen? Dr. Daryl, with an enquiring mind............. PS: ... Read More
Thanks for all of your feedback, I will give them a call.... My wife's car is in the shop so I let her drive the Saab and I took the rental supplied by insurance. Not a bad car, 2004 Mazda 6 but I am ready to take my Saab back! You cannot compare the ride or the well thought out features. The red dash display is very distracting at night, we ... Read More
You should return this car, it is unsafe. Here in the discussion group I remeber few people were able to return the car when they complained to saab. Minimum you might be able to do an exchange i.e get a 2004 saab if not money return, which has much lesser problems. Do update us how it went Best of luck
First to answer 200493aero, I had a 2003 9-3 SS w/17" wheels, sport suspension, (no longer available for 2004 on the ARC), auto.trans., and the engine light came on and I also lost full power. The car reverted to limp home mode. The next day the light went out and the car was fine. No codes came up when I brought the car to the dealer. I also had the stalling ... Read More
After picking up my 9-3 yesterday I was told that somehow the brake pads that were used on the 2003 had somehow made it on to my 2004. That makes no sense to me unless Saab (GM) had left over 2003s and is selling them as 2004 models... Very strange. Either way, they put new pads and rotors on the car and it is fine. No squeal and it actually stops ... Read More
I too have had problems with brake squeal, on my 2004 Arc. It started after 3 weeks and 600 miles. Last week I had it in for the 30 day inspection and the service person told me that he has seen this phenomenon by people who brake lightly (?) in the last few feet before stopping. He blamed brake dust (the occurrence did coincide with the car getting dirty for the ... Read More
Just purchased 2004 Saab 9-3 Linear and have been quite happy with it for the first week. After 179 miles I've noticed that the brakes (after driving for a while) squeal like crazy! I'm talking loud to the point that the girl at the drive through covered her ears when I pulled up. Called the dealer and was told that was a problem on the 2003s and my 2004 should be ... Read More
I'll answer the questions I've heard answers to by Those Who Know. 3. The 2003 headlight washers were/are problematic and have been changed for 2004. The Vector name is still copywrited by Gerald Wiegart of the late Vector W2 hyperexotic. The licensure fee for Saab was astronomical so the Vector line has been dropped. It's too bad because that's the trim level I liked...sports chassis, metallic trim, standard body. The comparable ... Read More
I asked that this discussion be reopened, as we are considering buying a 2004 9-5 Linear Sport Wagon through this program. Has anyone purchased a car through this program lately? I have the same question as Dafohosman: can you negotiate the price - the deal now is 9% off of the MSRP, but can I negotiate the MSRP? Second, and I plan to call Saab about this since I've requested information ... Read More
Only having had my 9-3 Arc a couple of weeks, I am not qualified to answer most of your questions. But I have a couple of comments: The 300W stereo sounds decent, but it's not what I would call spectacular. The sound quality is acceptable, but it doesn't play as loudly as you might expect, particularly the rear speakers. I did not drive the Linear, so I can't comment on its ... Read More
Hello. We are currently considering purchasing a new sedan that will be used for rush-hour commuting, occasional family activity (we have 8-month-old twins), and the occasional blast of enthusiastic driving. That role is handled by our 1998 Volvo S-70GLT light-pressure turbo. As owners of Saabs: 1. What do you feel Saab has over Volvo? 2. What is the cost of a typical oil change? 3. What is the cost of replacing ... Read More
For 2003, the 9-3 Arc had real wood trim (poplar was the type of wood). It was determined that the look of imitation wood actually had more appeal to more people and "wood finish trim" became standard on the 2004 9-3 Arc. Your local Saab dealer's parts dept. should be able to set you up with metal finish trim for the 9-3 Arc. These kits are available through Saab Accessories and ... Read More
