Sedan Under $45,000

2007 Infiniti M35 Winner: 2007 Infiniti M35/M45

Infiniti's M35/M45 twins earn their first-time entry to the list with their torque-rich powertrains, quick-shifting transmissions, solid build quality and unique styling. The M35 boasts a 3.5-liter V6 making 275 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, while the M45 sees 325 hp and 336 lb-ft from its burly 4.5-liter V8. These rear-wheel-drive sedans offer ample room, high-quality trim and a host of safety features. But the real draw of these sedans is their sharp handling which makes them feel much smaller and more nimble than you might expect. There are plenty of cars in this class that provide luxury and a few that might have better performance, but Infiniti's M cars put the two together in a more engaging package than any of their peers.

Honorable Mention: 2007 Lexus GS 300/GS 430/GS 450h

The GS sedans have always provided ample comfort and these days they're no slouches in the performance department either. The base GS 350 now has the strongest six-cylinder in its class with the addition of a new 303-horsepower V6. That's enough to surpass the V8 GS 430 in horsepower, but the midgrade model still retains a significant torque advantage. Then there's the top-of-the-line gasoline-electric GS 450h which makes 340 hp and 267 lb-ft. No matter which you choose, all the GS sedans have spacious, well-appointed interior with all the features you could ask for in a midsize luxury sedan. Add to that impeccable build quality and it's easy to see why we would gladly put any one of these Lexus sedans in our driveway.
