Most Wanted SUV Under $45,000
Interactive Vehicle Tour What's This?

2006 BMW X5Winner: BMW X5

Who says SUVs have to come up short when it comes to handling? Certainly not BMW. The BMW X5 impresses with its stable sport-sedanlike handling and prodigious grip. But this 'ute is more than just a great performer. On the outside, it's sharp and cleanly styled, with crisp, aerodynamic lines that lend it a fashionably stark, utilitarian look. Once inside, you'll find yourself enveloped in a world of leather-swathed luxury. If that weren't enough, the X5 boasts some of the top safety scores in its category. The X5 comes in three versions: the 225-horsepower 3.0i, the 315-hp 4.4i and the red-hot 355-hp 4.8is.

Honorable Mention: Lexus RX 330

This SUV is a great example of what a luxury crossover utility can be. The Lexus RX 330 is a luxurious SUV that effectively combines sport, utility, comfort and technology in a stylish package. Combine that with a strong reputation for reliability and a ride worthy of the name Lexus, and it's hard to go wrong with the RX 330. Excellent performance, carlike handling, a large interior and plenty of unique features make the RX stand out in an already competitive segment. Even with new competitors cropping up at every turn, it remains one of the best on the market.
