Most Wanted Coupe Over $45,000
Interactive Vehicle Tour What's This?

2006 BMW 6-SeriesWinner: BMW 6 Series

The recently reconstituted 6 Series brought BMW out of the rough patch of its 8 Series years and beat out last year's winner, the Mercedes CL, due to the BMW's uniformly excellent performance capabilities. The 6 Series' controversial design might not quite make it the sexiest luxury coupe on the road, although the vehicle wins out through numerous other top-of-the-line qualities. Awe-inspiring handling, a sleek interior, and remarkably ample cargo space more than justify the $71,800 MSRP. Even the notoriously finicky iDrive is easier than it has ever been. What really sets the 6 Series apart from its pricey peers, though, is its 360-horsepower, 4.8-liter V8, which is simply one of the best engines in any car.

Honorable Mention: Porsche 911

It may lack the allure of a big V8 under the hood, but the 2006 Porsche 911 more than makes up for it with its excellent driving qualities and classic, timeless design. The base model still packs a healthy 325 horsepower from its 3.6-liter horizontally opposed six, while the Carrera S ups the ante with its slightly more powerful 355-hp, 3.8-liter engine. The masterfully executed interior, phenomenal brakes, and special features such as the optional Porsche Active Suspension Management, make the 911 a winner through and through.
