Most Wanted Minivan
Winner: Honda Odyssey
Creating the ultimate minivan requires more than just offering a roomy and comfortable box-on-wheels. Today's minivans must have abundant power, uncompromised utility and the latest in creature comforts, and the newly redesigned Honda Odyssey doesn't miss a trick. It offers plenty of power from its 255-horsepower V6 engine, coupled with an all-new cylinder deactivation system that improves mileage without sacrificing a single pony. A new body structure increases the Odyssey's overall crash-worthiness over its predecessor, plus Honda added a rear camera and side airbag canopies that span all three rows. Combine performance with improved safety and a nine-inch DVD rear entertainment system with unparalleled sound quality, and you've got a vehicle your family will want to spend time in.
Honorable Mention: Toyota Sienna
Revamped in 2004, the Toyota Sienna spent a triumphant year on top, finally surpassing the Honda Odyssey prior to its 2005 redesign. While the Odyssey may have reclaimed the lead, the Sienna still offers enough mechanical and feature content to make it a close runner-up. With a standard split-folding third-row seat, side door windows that roll down, A/C power outlets and available eight-passenger seating, plus optional adaptive cruise control, three-zone climate control and a JBL audio system, the Sienna may no longer be the most attractive package in the minivan market, but its interior luxury still verifies its status as the Lexus of minivans.
