Most Wanted Convertible Under $25,000
Winner: Mazda MX-5 Miata
With the addition of the hot Mazdaspeed version, the Miata is better than ever. With 178 turbocharged ponies under the hood, the Mazdaspeed Miata is the high-powered MX-5 enthusiasts have been waiting for. A retuned suspension, larger wheels and tires and a unique interior further sweeten the deal that this affordable roadster offers. But even those who don't need the added performance of the turbocharged model will still find the standard versions every bit as enjoyable. With just enough modern conveniences to keep it comfortable, the Miata is still the classic convertible that made it a hit over a decade ago. You can drop the top without ever leaving your seat and there's just enough space in the trunk for a weekend's worth of cargo. When it comes to affordable convertibles, it's hard to go wrong with Mazda's Miata.
Honorable Mention: Mini Cooper Convertible
Get ready for a dose of Mini mania all over again as the Cooper is finally available in convertible form. We've loved this fun-to-drive economy car since the day it rolled onto American shores, but the introduction of the convertible model has us checking it out all over again. Sporting virtually the same lines as the standard coupe, the convertible gives up little in the way of style or performance. Offered in both standard and supercharged Cooper S trim, the Mini convertible has a power-operated top that folds away in seconds to deliver the kind of fun that only a Mini can. There's still seating for four and cargo space is expectedly tight, but if you're looking for wind-in-your-hair fun on a budget, it's hard to top a topless Cooper.
