Most Wanted Coupe Under $15,000
Winner: Honda Civic
Versatile, refined and environmentally friendly, today's Civic coupe has broad appeal. If you're pinching pennies, there's the Value Package and LX coupes, which give you access to all the basics. If you want a full load of amenities and a more powerful engine, there's the EX coupe. If fuel economy is most important to you, the HX coupe has a leaner-burning engine that allows it to get up to 44 mpg. And if you're looking for a little performance from your Civic, not to mention extra cargo space, you'll want to look at the Si hatchback. Whether you're a seasoned commuter or a budget-minded enthusiast (with plans for aftermarket upgrades), there's something to please just about everyone.
Honorable Mention: Ford Focus
Although the Focus can't match the refinement and bulletproof reliability outlook of its Honda peer, there are plenty of reasons to buy one anyway. Chief among these are its excellent driving dynamics, as the Focus manages to deliver the smooth, comfortable ride that wins favor with commuters, along with the responsive handling in corners that makes it a perfect starting point for young driving enthusiasts. Inside, the car offers roomy accommodations for its passengers, simple controls and a great stock audio system. And around back, the three-door hatchback body style opens up plenty of cargo space for hauling groceries or moving back to the dorms.
