Most Wanted Sedan Under $15,000
Winner: Mazda 3
A year after its introduction, the sharp-looking Mazda 3 has become the fastest-selling nameplate in the Mazda lineup and not without good reason: The 3 is a thrill behind the wheel thanks to a precisely tuned suspension, quick steering and strong brakes. Throw in two of the most powerful engines in its class and it's easy to see why we're big fans of this four-door sedan and four-door hatchback duo. But the 3 is about more than just performance, as it features a stylish interior that proves both functional and comfortable as well. For the money, you would be hard-pressed to find a better economy sedan or four-door hatchback on the market.
Honorable Mention: Honda Civic
Years into its life cycle, the Civic sedan continues to outperform an ever-improving array of economy cars. Honda's long-standing reputation for exceptional build quality and reliability has always made it a smart choice among savvy consumers. But there's more to it than that. The Civic also gives buyers refined handling characteristics and a thoughtfully designed interior with the roomiest backseat in the segment. Although it's not the fastest, the biggest or the cheapest, the Civic always feels like one of the most competent vehicles in this price range regardless of whether you choose a sensible LX or a fuel-sipping Hybrid.
