Most Wanted Minivan
Winner: Toyota
Sienna
Creating the ultimate 21st century minivan requires more than just offering a
roomy and comfortable box-on-wheels. Today's people movers must have abundant
power, confident handling, uncompromised utility and the latest in creature comforts.
While Honda's Odyssey has met these requirements since it was redesigned in 1999,
Toyota's all-new Sienna one-ups Honda with a standard split-folding third-row
seat, side door windows that roll down, A/C power outlets and available eight-passenger
seating. Optional adaptive cruise control, three-zone climate control and a JBL
audio system verify the Sienna as the Lexus of minivans.
Honorable Mention: Nissan
Quest
It's not easy to make a minivan "cool" but Nissan did it with the 2004 Quest.
Whether you focus on the edgy exterior, avant-garde interior, unique sunroof design
or refined 240-horsepower V6, this minivan forces you to rethink the entire segment's
image. Yet the Quest isn't just about shock and awe. The fold-flat second- and
third-row seats offer tremendous utility while the optional Bose audio system
and DVD entertainment system (complete with multiple overhead screens) validate
the Nissan as a true innovator. It's the first minivan where the term "hip factor"
has nothing to do with an interior measurement.
