Most Wanted Large SUV Under $45,000

Chevrolet Tahoe Winner: Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon

One of the vehicles responsible for triggering the SUV craze was Chevy's full-size Blazer. The Blazer was eventually rechristened the Tahoe; how fitting, then, that the Tahoe and its twin, the GMC Yukon, continue to set the standard for the large-SUV category. The big 'utes offer surprisingly nimble handling, and a transmission that does its job with seamless, intuitive ease. Powering the twins is a pair of gutsy V8s that hustles these haulers along with authority. King-sized and fit for a king (or queen), the Tahoe/Yukon duo shines among the best of the biggest.

Honorable Mention: Toyota Sequoia

Toyota's mighty Sequoia soars above most in its class. With seating for eight, the hauler is far from petite, yet it comes endowed with road manners that are pleasingly refined. Scoot inside and you'll find a plush cabin that's almost luxury-car sumptuous. The 'ute's V8 earns praise for being whisper-soft, and powers the Sequoia with velvetlike smoothness. Two trims are offered: the base SR5 and the top-of-the-line Limited, which comes with leather seats and a premium audio system. With so much to offer, it's easy to see why the Sequoia lands on this segment's shortlist of contenders.
