Most Wanted SUV Under $25,000

Kia Sorento Winner: Kia Sorento

Universally well made, the Kia Sorento is nothing short of a revelation: Who knew that Kia, a heretofore undistinguished marque, was capable of crafting such a standout? Build quality and performance are class-leading, and on the outside the Sorento is attractive and crisply tailored. Inside it boasts spacious dimensions and treats passengers to a level of luxury that belies the vehicle's low sticker price. Two trim levels are available: the LX and the more generously appointed EX. If you're looking to get the most bang for your compact-SUV buck, the Sorento deserves to be at the top of your list.

Honorable Mention: Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute

There's a lot to love about the Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute duo. A spacious interior and a stylish exterior help make the pair a blast to drive and ride in. On pavement, the 'utes deliver performance that's surprisingly well mannered, with little body roll and responsive steering. While not as rugged as some of the competition, they manage to hold their own off-road as well. The standard engines on both of these 'utes are rather uninspiring; we urge you to spring for the optional V6 to enjoy these vehicles with maximum thrills. Talented and fun, the Escape/Tribute twins are built to add a smile or two to your travels around town.
