Most Wanted Convertible Under $35,000

Honda S2000 Winner: Honda S2000

An electrifying roadster, the S2000 tosses aside the notion that convertibles are for cruising and that Honda only builds boring sedans. Even five years into its life cycle, the S2000 is still the open car serious drivers like us would put in our own garages if we had around $30 grand to spend. Why? Start with a maniacal engine that can extract 240 horsepower from its measly 2.2-liter displacement and an agile chassis with a 50/50 front-to-rear weight ratio. Throw in a precision steering rack and wrap it up with an exterior as dashing as it is simple, and you've got a recipe for a sexy, desirable roadster that we just can't turn down.

Honorable Mention: BMW Z4

For those who seek a bit more luxury and everyday usability, BMW's Z4 satisfies like few other roadsters can. Granted, we're not enamored with its bizarre styling, noisy highway ride or higher pricing, but in every other respect, this is a truly inspired driving machine. Handling is almost as sharp as the Honda's, and the Z4's communicative suspension, steering and brakes make it a delight on curvy roads, while a sophisticated stability control system makes it easy to balance fun with safety. Either of the two available inline six-cylinder engines offers ample thrust, and the stylish cockpit offers most of the amenities one could want.
