Most Wanted Coupe Under $15,000

Honda Civic Winner: Honda Civic

The Honda Civic has been a paragon of reliability, fuel efficiency and value for 30 years. In the last decade it has also become the symbol of today's young automotive enthusiasts, much like the '32 Ford and '55-'57 Chevy before it. While it may sound strange to equate a Honda coupe to old hot rods, the Civic is clearly the "in" thing when it comes to street cred; and that is largely due to Honda's well respected and super fun Civic Si. Of course the Civic is also an excellent first car or daily commuter and boasts such high levels of refinement that it seems to be in a class by itself. As if the stylish coupe and sporty Si variants weren't enough, Honda also offers a gas-electric hybrid Civic that can get over 50 mpg. What can't this car do?

Honorable Mention: Ford Focus

American automakers have struggled with their small car formulas for years, but Ford has a real winner with the Focus. When Ford replaced its Escort, the company wanted to create a "world car" that would offer a compact exterior, roomy and comfortable interior, spirited handling and segment-leading safety. The Focus succeeds on all counts, though excessive recalls dogged the early models. In the last few years Ford has expanded beyond the original hatchback, sedan and wagon. A five-door hatchback and highly capable SVT Focus in both three- and five-door versions round out the Focus line, providing a Focus to fit almost every need. SVT models include a potent 170-horsepower engine, six-speed transmission and special badging. Shopping on a budget? Focus.
