Most Wanted Wagon Under $15,000

Scion xB Winner: Scion xB

An amazing example of space efficiency, the boxy but diminutive xB accommodates four adults with ease. Handling is not the phone-booth-on-wheels experience you may anticipate — the xB is amazingly buttoned down and responsive for such a tall vehicle. Tally in a generous standard features list (including a Pioneer AM/FM/CD sound system; air conditioning; power windows, mirrors and locks; antilock brakes; and stability control) along with the peace of mind that Toyota's enviable reputation provides, and it's easy to see why the xB is scoring big with buyers, despite its small size.

Honorable Mention: Suzuki Aerio

Last year's winner is this year's runner-up — and still a big hit with us. For 2004 the Aerio's horsepower has been pumped up and a number of options added to this distinctively styled sport wagon. Introduced just two years ago, the compact, aerodynamic (hence the name) wagon has a small footprint but a surprisingly roomy interior. It's set up for both people moving and cargo hauling. Powered by a 155-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, you can option the Aerio to your taste with ABS and all-wheel drive. Whatever you order, you won't pay much. If you're looking for a compact wagon capable of beating rough weather, the Aerio will make a nice choice.
