Most Wanted Sedan Over $45,000
Winner: Audi
A8 L
The engineers from Ingostadt have come out swinging to dissuade the notion that
their ultraluxury flagship sedan is a second-class citizen to the Teutonic duo
of Mercedes and BMW. Built on a lightweight aluminum frame, the A8 boasts a refined,
sporty exterior while the interior design walks a fine line between functionality
and fashion. Audi packed the slick design with a plethora of high-tech features
such as the MMI control interface, a new six-speed Triptronic transmission and
variable steering. Powered by a 330-horsepower V8 riding on an unflappable air
suspension, the A8 meets the competition head-on.
Honorable Mention: Mercedes-Benz
E-Class
Value relative to other midsize luxury sedans probably isn't a motivating
factor in an E-Class purchase. Being surrounded by luxury appointments in a high-line
vehicle with a three-spoked star are, and the E-Class delivers this with panache.
Available as with luxury and performance, the E comes with a choice of V6 or V8
flavors to match your need for speed. An optional 4Matic all-wheel-drive system,
stability control, crash sensors and intelligent electronic braking round out
the E's sophisticated safety systems. The E-Class is the signature Mercedes-Benz
sedan attractive, dignified, capable and comfortable.
