Most Wanted Exotics
Winner: Ferrari
360
Our Most Wanted selections are based on rationality and logic. But when it comes
to choosing a favorite exotic, emotion is just as important. It is therefore
not much of a surprise that a Ferrari sits atop the podium. No matter where you
go, from Hong Kong to the Patagonia, a Ferrari is the common tongue representing
power, wealth and sex appeal. Our choice of the 360 might seem unusual; after
all, this is Ferrari's least expensive offering. But, as with its 308, 328, 348
and 355 forerunners, this is a car to be used, not collected. It is, one could
say, a Ferrari for the real world.
Honorable Mention:
Porsche
911 GT2
Few cars in the world have such an intimidating reputation as the 911 Turbo. Fearsome
to other drivers pitted against it at a stoplight, sure, but also because of its
tricky oversteer characteristics that had many a Turbo owner heading backward
toward the guard rail. Ever since the introduction of the all-wheel drive in 1996,
the Turbo has been more user-friendly. It's a better car to be sure, but a bit
of soul was lost. Well, that was remedied with last year's release of the 911
GT2. No AWD. No electronic traction control nannies. Just 456 hp of supernatural
performance. Look at it in the wrong way, and it might just eat you.
