Most Wanted Sedan Under $45,000

BMW 5 Series Winner: BMW 5 Series

The 5 Series delivers everything we've come to expect from a BMW. Handsome looks? Check. A luxurious interior that shamelessly coddles those perched within? Check. And of course, this wouldn't be a Bimmer if it weren't a blast to drive. Whether traversing highways, switchbacks or side roads, the 5 Series offers up unparalleled levels of motoring enjoyment. Four trims are available: the 525i, the 530i, the 540i and the M5. If you wish to get your hands on the 5 Series in its current iteration, act quickly; next year, its styling becomes more closely aligned with the controversial 7 Series.

Honorable Mention: Jaguar S-Type

The S-Type shines as the most universally appealing member of the Jaguar family. It boasts a stately exterior and a luxurious cabin dripping with genuine wood and butter-soft leather. Thanks to upgrades in 2003, it also offers real driving excitement, with more responsive braking and steering. Three engines are available, including a 235-horsepower V6 in the 3.0, a 293-hp V8 in the 4.0 and a stomping 390-hp V8 in the S-Type R. If luxury and performance are on your must-have list, you'd be well served with any of these lovely cats gracing your garage.
