It wasn't the first four-door compact pickup on the market, but it's without a doubt the best. Bigger than a compact, but not quite full-sized, the Dakota QuadCab's four-door configuration is a great compromise between interior passenger space, exterior cargo capacity, and a manageable overall size. Unlike other compact four-door trucks, the QuadCab has plenty of room for five adults. The seats are comfortable all around and the interior layout is simple and straightforward. Need extra interior space? Just grab the rear seats and lift-no latches, no straps, no hassle. The bed is shortened to 5 feet 3 inches in length, not quite big enough for that couch with the hideaway bed, but still usable for light-duty Home Depot runs. Underneath the hood, we would choose the 4.7-liter V8. With 235 horsepower and 295 ft-lbs. of torque, it moves the Dakota with authority and doesn't swallow huge amounts of gas in the process. Almost all of our staffers enjoy the QuadCab's supple suspension that soaks up potholes with ease and still provides a comfortable and controlled highway ride. The QuadCab gets almost universal compliments on its looks as well. Four-wheel-drive models look especially buff with oversized off-road tires and a high stance. Overall, the Dakota QuadCab is one of the most versatile trucks on the market. With enough passenger space for the whole family, enough cargo capacity for most weekend warriors, and the ability to tow up to 6,300 lbs., it does it all. Add to that good looks and a comfortable interior and it's easy to see why this Dakota is our four-door pickup of choice.
