Sport Coupe (FWD/AWD) Under $30,000

Acura Integra Type R Winner: Acura Integra Type R

There are plenty of capable sport coupes available for under $30,000, but if our staff had to pick, we'd shack up with an Acura Integra Type R for the simple reason that this is the last year you will be able to buy one. Next year, Acura will debut an all-new and more upscale Integra, and it is highly unlikely that the Type R will continue. The Type R is a limited-production and high-performance version of the Integra. And it isn't for everybody. Its boy-racer looks -- with the large basket-handle rear wing and special wheels -- just scream, "Give me a speeding ticket!". The suspension is extremely stiff, and there is a lot of road and tire noise due to the lack of sound insulation. What you do get, though, is the most entertaining vehicle in this class. Acura equips the Type R with a 195-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, a racetrack-calibrated suspension, high-performance tires, stronger brakes, and sport seats. For early-morning blasts on deserted canyon roads, the Type R can be as much fun as sports cars costing twice as much. Get your Type R while you can.
