Small SUV

Honda CR-V Winner: Honda CR-V

How can the CR-V be Edmunds.com's Most Wanted small SUV when the hot-selling Nissan Xterra won our recent comparison test? Simple, our editors are willing to deal with a harsh ride, cramped rear seat and "creative" styling elements in return for a truly capable off-road vehicle with plenty of ground clearance and a torquey six-cylinder engine...at least for the duration of a comparison test that involves extensive off-road driving. However, when it's time to drive a small SUV the way most of us really do (on paved roads with multiple passengers), the Xterra fades fast while the CR-V rises to the occasion. The only small SUV currently on the market with a fully functional rear seat, the CR-V also boasts top-notch ergonomics, quality interior materials, and a pleasant, carlike ride. Don't get us wrong, we love Lenny Kravitz and first-aid kits as much as the next guy. But when it comes to how most of us drive our mini-SUVs most of the time, Hondas CR-V leads the way.
