Large Sedan
Winner: Dodge Intrepid
Sedan buyers desiring interior and trunk space need look no further than the affordable Dodge Intrepid. This car is gargantuan, with plenty of room for five adults and much of their luggage. It's a good-looking car too, as long as cab-forward architecture and modern lines appeal to you. There are shortcomings, mainly in terms of refinement, but the low price and high value quotient make it easy to live with cheap interior materials and intrusive road rumble. Choose from base or sporty ES trim levels, and you'll get a well-equipped and comfortable family hauler. A 2.7-liter V6 mated to an automatic transmission is standard on both cars. Base Intrepids include all the usual goodies, but ABS, remote keyless entry and a power driver's seat are options. ES has the gimmicky AutoStick automanual standard, and can be equipped with an optional 3.2-liter V6. ES is also your ticket to traction control, aluminum wheels, in-dash CD changer, fog lights and leather upholstery. Either way you go the Intrepid will serve your needs capably if buying a big car is on your "to do" list.
