try replacing the front sway bar links and frame mount bushings before you replace the leaf springs
Whoa...

this conversation is taking me back to 2003-2005 in Missouri. My wife and I and our animals moved there(Rolla)in order for me to get my re-training. In a city called St.Louis we loved to go see a rock band we discovered there. They're called the Drive-By Truckers, we first saw them in the spring of 2004 at Mississippi Nights, a great rock venue right on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. My wife and I and our son attended that show. Then in the winter of 2004 my wife and I went and saw them at another venue. After the show I was tired but didn't want to get a motel there in St.Louis. Rolla is about 125 miles or so west from St.Louis and I felt I could make the drive. As I started making it away from the venue we noticed some really bad looking buildings. Oh, man, that city has this thing going where you see a good building then there is one with bricks fallen down inside and outside of it and everything. This pattern repeats itself again and again. That was in late 2004. It was a snapshot of what St.Louis has looked like for a long time. St.Louis may have looked it's best back in the 20's or 30's I think. This current conversation about the Depression has popped my mind in to thinking of that night after the show. Depression has been with us already for a long, long time. Only now it's starting to affect people who never thought they'd live through this type of thing.

My sister ....

.... is starting the search for the vehicle that will replace her Honda Pilot when the lease is up next spring. Her requirements: * Seats 7 * Luxury * Used (preferably CPO) * $30K-ish * Last for 10 years * Not a minivan (her husband refuses to drive one) Her background: * 3 boys - currently ages 11, 8 and 5 * Husband drives a 330i (bought CPO last year) * Live in San Diego * She drives about 10K per year The two vehicles that she's considering at the moment are the Lexus GX470 and the BMW X5. She mentioned to me on the phone today that she didn't want something like a Suburban (too big), but when I told her that the GX is related to the 4Runner and is body-on-frame with a V8, she was surprised. I suspect the GX would get 14-15 MPG in town, and maybe 18 on the highway. The ones she's seen on the 'net have around 30-40K miles on them and the asking prices are in the $30-33K range. I told her that a CPO X5 would be more expensive to maintain and repair than the Lexus, even accounting for the extended warranty. Another one she likes is the Acura MDX (the new model, not the previous generation). I told her that the Acura was essentially a gussied up Pilot, and if you're going to spend $30K, why not get something new with a warranty rather than something 2-3 years old. She's also partial to the Volvo XC90, but I suspect that will be as expensive as the X5 to maintain. I told her she should just get an Odyssey and be done with it, but reminded me that the BIL loathes minivans (they had an Odyssey once, and the BIL insisted that it be traded in for a Tahoe with 20" wheels). I truly don't see the need for an SUV in Southern California ... to me, it's an image thing only, but it's her money and her decision. Thoughts? corvette and gouldn - congratulations on the new rides! The rest of us live vicariously through those that continue to renew their membership in CCBA.
2005 venture - rattling issue
by joeypiedmont on Mon Jul 07 12:32:33 PDT 2008
Took my wifes '05 in to check what she called 'rattling' coming from the rear of the vehicle. I drove it, and it only happened when the rear wheels were going over bumps. Mechanic says he cleaned out some rocks from off the frame, everything else was stable. Driving it home, heard the same sounds. I got underneath it myself, and the only thing i notice is some kind of tubing with a spring-like thing (sorry for the rookie lingo, not too technical here). It comes off the rear cylinder, connects to the frame by some clips. Moving this or slightly tapping it almost recreates the sound I heard while driving. What exactly is this tubing for and could this be the problem? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure how you're heading home from Colorado, but gas in Utah is more expensive than it is in Colorado. ' Hope you saw Garden of the Gods and Seven Veils Falls while you were in the Springs. You sure picked a good time of year to come visit!
