LS460L in livery service
by pjsent on Wed Apr 16 22:40:40 PDT 2008
Has anyone got experience using this car as an airport reservation car or as commercial ground transportation? Am considering starting a "limousine" service and this is one candidate vehicle I would consider. Any comments would be appreciated.

That Commer Imp van would be rare here - they made an estate version of the Imp, basically the same shell with windows, and that is pretty rare, but the van was a non starter commercially - it had to compete with the Mini van, which was brilliant, the Bedford HA, based on the Vauxhall Viva, the Ford Anglia based van which was cheap, then it's successor the Escort which was far better, and finally with the Morris Minor van, which went on until the early 70's and was basically indestructible... Liked the Peugeot ambulance, an ugly old bus - although not as famous or desirable as it's main rival, the Citroen H, which was a corrugated shed on wheels. You still see those even over here, and they were never sold in UK when new,,, The Pacer always amuses me. When someone tried to sell that here in the mid seventies, they made the mistake of trying to appeal as a sort of hi-tech car for people who wanted something different - they converted to RHD by some sort of chain arrangement behind the dashboard, I think, so the steering column stayed in the same place, as a sort of stump, and the driver on the passenger side had a wheel with no feel whatsoever... Also the passenger door on the original car was wider to allow safe access for people from the rear seat onto the pavement - but here, of course, that was on the driver's side. No wonder they never sold any - the only ones I can ever recall seeing were LHD, and they would have been rarities even when new.

They are actually driving on our side of the road, although that is such a wide street that it is hard to tell... I would say the location is in north London, probably somewhere like Camden or Notting Hill... Thanks for the link on the Transit - it is really the generic name now for a panel van one size larger than the car based ones... Even if somepne has a Bedford, a VW or a Mercedes-Benz van, if it is about that size everyone refers to it as a 'Transit'

The car in motion is a VW Type 34 Karmann Ghia. Nearest the camera looks like a Triumph Herald, across the street is an Opel GT, maybe a Bedford or Ford van, and what looks like a Jag 3.4.
Lease - Komfort w/ Heated Seats & Ipod Adapter
by tballs on Fri Jun 13 15:41:07 PDT 2008
I just leased a Passat Komfort for my parents in MA. I've leased a few cars now, and have found a process that seems to work well for me (with lots of help from these forums and especially the car_man!). I email a few dealerships' internet sales manager that say something like the following: "I'm interested in leasing a Volkswagen Passat Komfort in Black, Grey or Silver for either 24 mos or 36 mos / 15k per year. THe options I'm interested are heated seats. Please provide me with a quote via email with the following info: MSRP Purchase Price Residual Money Factor / INterest Rates Inception FEes - Please itemize. I usually get an email reply asking me to come in and go for a test drive. By this point I've already driven whatever vehicle I'm leasing so I simply reply that I already have and am interested in the financial details. Some try to call instead of email. If I get a voicemail (I travel internationally for work) I just send another email saying that I got their voicemail and to please send me the information via email. Once I have the information from the dealers, I compare them to each other and to what I read in the message boards here. Then I pick one and go into the dealership to do the paperwork. Just leased my mum a black passat komfort with tan interior. Includes IPod Adapter and heated seats and rubber floor mats. Drive off/inception fee was $790, which includes the first month's payment. Monthly Payments are $289 including tax. Lease is 36 months / 15k. I'll have to check, but I think that the residual was 47& and the money factor was .00018 The original offer that I got was from Quirk VW. The internet sales manager's name is Mark Gallagher - very good guy to work with. Unfortunately Quirk didn't have anything in Komforts other than Blue Slate or whatever that color is. Minuteman VW in Bedford, MA was willing to match the offer and get a black passat from another dealer, something that Quirk says that they don't do. So we did the deal with Minuteman. The whole process from initial email to sign took approximately 1 week.
Ohio Dealer

Just want to pass along some thanks to all the advice I have been given on this site over the last 6 months.. I picked up my new G35x with Premium, Navigation and black on black.. The technology upgrade from my '04 g is unbelieveable. On the dealer side, I dealt with Infiniti of Bedford in NE Ohio and the Finance Manager was phenominal. I got the car less than $500 over invoice... My credit score was 4 points under tier 1 and the finance manager got me tier 1 pricing with Infiniti FInancial Services. I'm paying $50 less per month than I was paying on my 2004. Great experience with the Bedford dealership and thanks spefically to Dennis for all his help on Edmunds.
