California scared of it's own citizens
by 62vetteefp on Tue May 13 10:53:08 PDT 2008
Well, California is getting a bit insecure on it's decision to up the CAFE in their own state. California dealers are telling them that customers will go out of state to get the vehicles they want since they will be unable to sell them and those they can will be more expensive. DUHHH! :P So now California is trying to get neighboring states to join them so Californians will keep their money in California. What will the states do that are on the regional CAFE border? They will lose out. The head of California's Air Resources Board said she was willing to talk with automakers about modifying one aspect of the state's landmark tailpipe emissions regulations. Board Chairwoman Mary Nichols, speaking to reporters at the SAE Government/Industry meetings on Monday, said she was open to discussing setting "regional" rather than state-by-state standards for tailpipe emissions. The consideration comes after California auto dealers expressed concerns that automakers could be forced to stop selling larger less-efficient vehicles there because of the state's proposed strict regulations, which could encourage customers to buy larger vehicles in another state. A regional approach would largely protect California from this issue. Again not only large vehicles but also cheaper vehicles. There could easily be a $1000 difference from on state to the next due to the higher mpg level. I mean to go from 37 mpg for cars in 2016 (federal requirement) to 44 in California is quite a difference. GM has said the California rules could force it to stop selling 80 percent of its vehicles in California and add thousands of dollars to the cost of every vehicle. All three major presidential candidates have agreed to support California's request. Underscoring the industry's willingness to compromise, McCurdy noted automakers met with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last week "to open a dialogue and find common ground."
Re: VPP Pricing vs. Haggling on a deal [elcharro1]

I live in Phoenix and just got back from CA with my new G37. The AZ dealers were terrible to work with. I sent a price request to Santa Monica Infiniti and got a response from Nichole. Her first offer was invoice with 0 dealer add ons. It was the smoothest car deal I've ever had. No hint of funny stuff and no pressure for any extras. They will also ship cars.

California firms to dump dirtier diesel equipment overseas
by larsb on Mon Aug 13 15:20:08 PDT 2007
Actually, it looked like a bad thing on the surface, but digging deeper you see this: "The equipment that will be moving to other parts of the world will still be meeting U.S. standards and may be cleaner than what they've got now," said Mary Nichols, chairwoman of the California Air Resources Board. "It's a little bit of a trickle-down effect, but it's better than not doing anything at all. "Take our dirty exhaust please, and throw away your even DIRTIER equipment"

Joel, I usually tend to agree with your line of thinking in your posts but I really don't see the big deal with the guy from Carmax. (unless, of course, Carmax in Nashville is a franchised new Ford dealer) I assume that we are talking about a used car, being a 2006 model. ...Why not say "Sorry sir, we don't keep copies of old owners manuals in stock but you may try calling 1-800-xxx-FORD (i.e. Ford Customer Service or whatever) to see if you can order it from them?" I can understand your annoyance if someone came to your store asking these questions if they were driving a NEW Ford from a competitor. I am sure that the guy probably has no understanding that the keypad code is not something that he or you can just change right there on the spot without the little card that has the "master" code from the factory. With the master code and the owners manual (that he came to your store to see if he could obtain) he could have set it to whatever he chose. (I have done it with my 04 F150.) Or, perhaps a suggestion to bring it into the service department so they could determine the master code/reset it/reprogram it or whatever needed to be done. As I said before, I generally agree with your posts and appreciate your insight but it seems to me that you just royally pissed off a potential service department customer. If I were him, I would pull that Explorer with my teeth and a rope all the way to Memphis before I would bring it back to your store for service. What was so unreasonable of his request? Did I miss something? BTW, just got back from Myrtle Beach myself. If you had went into MB via Marion-Mullins-Nichols-NMB (hwy 9 ??) you might have seen one of my favorite roadway signs.... Somebody apparently was trying to make an anti-drug statement (think "SEE ROCK CITY") on the side of their barn. Someone painted, in HUGE letters, "DRUGS ARE DANG". I wonder about that barn every time I pass through. Did they not know how to spell "dangerous?" Were they on drugs themselves? Did they run out of paint and just haven't got around to finishing sometime in the last decade or two? Maybe they are speaking of personal experience and illustrating what drugs can do to the mind? Priceless.
Someone Please Help
by kmulcahy on Mon Jun 05 11:12:46 PDT 2006
Hello Turkeyt, I have the same make and model as your truck and I have also came upon this problem. My check engine light came on a few weeks ago so I brought it to a local Toyota shop. The mechanics told me that if the light comes back on then it is an Air Flow problem. The Light has not come back on but I have also came upon the problem that after I have been driving for a little while and I put the truck in park while it is still running, after a few minutes the truck will start to shake as if it is almost going to die. I believe that this is an Idol problem but I am not sure. I was wondering if you came up with a solution to the problem and if so please email me at KTMulcahy@nichols.edu. It would be greatly appreciated.
