I think Chrysler is done for already. Cerberus isn't giving them any capital for development and nothing really new is coming out of the chute there. Ford is at make or break right now. My prediction would be if they are forced to sell Mazda, their development division for cars, and Volvo, the other car platform they are using, they are done for. Trucks are still good, but not making the money they used to as volumes drop and profits shrink. They haven't redone the Ranger since Clinton and it's woefully behind the times. In fact, it's not even as good as it was in the 80's when it was top notch. Dumping Land Rover and Jaguar was unfortunate, just as they were putting out the finest product they ever have, but necessary. But losing Mazda and Volvo is going to hurt their future measurably. The current Taurus is an excellent car, totally unappealing though. The Fusion is a Mazda, and a great car, but one hit isn't going to make it for the company. Ford is in a very precarious position, and I'm not sure it can be further shrunk into prosperity. GM is finally, FINALLY coming out with some nice product, and kudos to them for finally waking up. But they must downsize drastically. They need to do what Ford is doing, but much more and faster and get those divisions down to 3 maximum. I mean just what IS Saturn these days anyway??? I expect there will be some mergers of desperately weak companies which will give them 10 more years before they fold completely or are bought out by a foreign company. How sad it that? Chrysler - Dead already. Ford - Not yet moving forward, just shrinking.... GM - Making a move, but not the right one, and too late. We're done for.
Nuvi 350 placement in 2009 Corolla
by gizzer777 on Thu Aug 07 19:06:54 PDT 2008
I have a Nuvi 350 and pretty much surrendered using the suction piece on the windshield. They were $1000 when it 1st appeared. I waited until they got down to about $350 before I pulled the "buy it now"chute. I saw a magellan (model 1412?) at Costco for $200 the other day. For $200 it seemed like a pretty good deal at first glimpse!!!! Finally bit the bullit ($40) and bought the bean bag mounting bag. It is just a matter of where it lands from that point on. Best spot for the bean bag seems to be at the corner or the center of the dash with the corner area winning out for me. The nice thing about the Nuvi's antenna (the SIRFIII chipset is very sensitive) is that it works pretty much anywhere as long as there is no metal blocking it! I must admit, I came close to putting an in dash unit, like the Kenwood, that has the Garmin's NAV setup built in. My only gripe with the Nuvi will be that non user replaceable battery they hid so well! Then I thought of those people with the $3000 stereo in their $1000 car! NOT THIS TIME!, especially since I just got done updating the Nuvi's maps to the 2009 version. Besides, you just do not get a CLOSE SHAVE from the in dash unit lets face it, I like the Nuvi 350 with its mp3 player It was already familiar since I have the Nuvi and the 6 speaker oem setup is good enough for me. It is best using the AUX setup in the car's radio along with the MP3 from the Nuvi.....next best thing!

...auto markets are changing far faster than what notions executives of MB, BMW, Audi and VW have about the markets. Funny how small things look at 50K feet...the ground comes up fast if you don't have a reserve chute and your market did a hook turn! Hook turn - A sudden turn close to the ground used to build up speed for a spectacular turf surf and gentle landing. When misjudged can result in smashed bones and a lengthy stay in hospital. Regards, OW

Absolutely, dude. Here in the Phoenix, AZ market, at least one dealer is offering invoice MINUS $1500 right out of the chute, via e-mail, on '08 RDX's. To start, with no haggling. Actually, as I think about it, it might be for RDX/Tech only, and not the Base.

All negotiations start out with both party's establishing a starting point and then finding middle ground from there. I understand this but when the customer says, “can you give me your best price, I’m serious about buying and I don’t want to play games going back and forth, OK”? What I have heard from people I know and what I have heard here, the sales person still resorts to standard car selling 101. So, given this happens how quickly do you (Joel) get right to the point of selling a car? All you internet shoppers have taken the fun and the thrill out of the biz. Because of what happens as I just mentioned above, this is why I started off via the internet the last two times I bought. I’m not saying that I was given the best price right out of the chute but I was not wasting my time in a show room playing games. In the end there will always be some negotiating, I just want to minimize it while in the comfort of my easy chair. I’ve said this before, “until the internet method stops working, I’ll stay with it”. jmonroe
Re: Toyota in tight race for No. 1 with GM [blufz1]

Probably safe advice, but I bought my 98 Accord just after it was released as a new model with not a single problem. Now, after 4 months and almost 6000 miles on my new 08 Accord, I have only one, very minor problem . . . the gear shift knob squeaks in such a way to make me believe it might be something that will be tweaked later in the manufacturing process. At least in my experience, Honda makes cars that are relatively full-proof right out of the chute! :)
