Re: Advise on buying a forester [chicago2008]

Hi chicago2008 I'm just north of you in Wisconsin and I was pretty much in the same situation as you. I have had my Explorer for 8.5 yrs and was looking for something new. You will find loads of helpful advice and people on this forum. I still waiting for my 2.5x premium to arrive, but I thought I would share what I could regarding the whole buying process. What I'm going to say you will find others have said here already. If you haven't done so already test drive a limited, if you can find one. :) That way you know that it is the perfect fit for you and also see some of the accessories first hand. As for recommended accessories - it depends on what you need/want, but feel free to do a search here to see others' experiences with specific accessories. To make sure you get a good price, throw out a wide net for internet quotes. I was able to buy my Forester based on a quote from a dealer north of Milwaukee, but I had inquired of dealers as far south as Chicago. Also some have gotten great deals from a dealership in Colorado who seems to be willing to deliver to anywhere in the US. (I don't know that from experience, just what I've read) As far as when to take the plunge - waiting for the new model year is typically a good bet, as is purchasing towards the end or beginning of the year. Problem I think you may have is that these things are selling like hotcakes, so Subaru has no reason to offer 0% financing or cash back. I think they are currently offering 4.9% and the lowest since I've been looking was 4.5%. Ford and GM on the other hand are struggling to make sales, so they offer low, low financing and employee pricing schemes. If you have good credit you should check with a bank and/or credit union and see what interest rate you qualify for as that may or may not be better than what Subaru is offer at the time of purchase or delivery. It's also a good idea to check with local dealers to see if they offer incentives. For example, I bypassed my local dealer in favor of one 20 miles away because not only were they willing to honor a low internet quote, they also offer free oil changes for as long as I own my Forester. Hope this helps and I'm sure you'll get more advice.
trip milage

Just got back from a 5200 mile 14 day trip ( milwaukee to mt. vernon wa, down to crator national park and back through yellowstone and home) with my 06 manual shift 5. We were heavily loaded with the weight equivelent of 6 adults. The car actually sat low in the back. I averaged 31 mpg, and in fact got about 31 out of most tanks. The high was 35.4 achieved by 50 mph cruising through yellowstone park, and the worst was cruising at 77 mph though south dakota, where I got only 27. I now know for certain that the 5's economy goes downhill fast at over 70 mph. At 70 I still see about 30.5, but going 75 mph drops me another 3.0 to 4.0 mpg, not worth it at all considering the small amount of time saved. Roughly 15% more fuel to go only 7% faster. Another way to look at it, if I could have done the entire 5200 miles at either 70mph or 75 mph with gas at $4.25/gal, heres what the cost and time would have been: 70 mph, 75 hours, 168 gal, $714, range on 15 gallons 465 miles 75 mph, 69 hours. 192 gal, $816, range on 15 gallons 405 miles Other interesting items, my fuel economy was actually slightly better in the mountains, perhaps due to the slightly lower average speeds, and also the 5, even heavily loaded does absolutely great in the mountains. Fun note: Going uphill west through the Cascades, I was easily able to stay ahead of a group of harley guys who badly wanted to pass. Going 75 mph up the 7% grades, they simply did'nt have the power to pass me on the short straights, and when they finally got around me on a long one, they found I was right on their tails on all the turns. I could actually go through the curves faster than the harleys. :) Over 24k on my 5 now, and still love it.

I'm going to South Dakota, from Milwaukee, in a couple of weeks. I figure about 2000 miles round trip. I planned on 25MPG, at about $4.00 a gallon. It would be great if I got better mileage, but there will be 4 of us, with luggage, and I know we'll be going 80 or so when we're in rural Minnesota and South Dakota.
Re: PILOT price in Chicago Suburb [mutik]

Bought the Pilot EX 4WD in the Milwaukee area. Struck throgh internet sales; for $ 26,186 + TTL and $ 89.00 service fee. I was OTD @ 27,843.00 (5.5% tax) no other options were on the vehicle. Had to drive south to Milwaukee a couple of hours. Could not get to a good price in the Fox Valley so the drive was worth the $ 700.00 Sounds like other markets (BOSTON) are fairing better that Wisconsin area. Picked it up Friday. I didn't want to drive additional miles to Chicago so I did not try anything south of Milwaukee, But your $ 26,100 sound fair until Tuesday, than who knows what.

I also live in South East WI, a little north of Milwaukee. Going to check out the three Hyundai lots on Sunday. Looking for a 2007 also and if I find one I like will try to get a deal done next week some time. Liked that your dealer experience was first class. Not sure if you can do this or not but what dealer did you go to and can you give me the salesman's name if possible. Glad you like your new ride, hope to do the same soon. wa40
Re: 2006 Sonata Prices In The Milwaukee Area [cajuncycler]
by motorhead5 on Sat Jul 08 18:53:11 PDT 2006
I have been checking other states around me Illinois and Michigan but not as far south as Florida. The Illinois dealers havent been much cheaper at all and it seems like the 2006 inventory isnt that great in Michigan.I guess if the deal is right it would be worth the trip. The dealer told me that the sunroof adds about 800 to the price. The dealer I have been working with doesnt have any in his inventory without sunroofs otherwise I might skip it. I am thinking of offering him 17,200 on the I4. I drove both of them and I was surprised at how good the I4 accelerated. Gas is now $3.25 here and the better gas mileage would be nice
