Re: Cross Country driving on 2000 protege with ~99000 miles [girishbala]

Go for it! Good idea to follow the previous advice on making sure your services are up to date and I can predict you'll have no issues making the trip. My 92 Pro LX has been X-country several times with no issue ever interupting the trip. Be safe out in LA-LA land... ;)

You may be correct regarding which models the La Crosse was intended to replace, but size wise, the LaCrosse is close to the Le Sabre. Maybe the LeSabre was more space efficient than the LaCrosse.

The dealer was kind enough to dig into this for me (Gaudin Ford, Las Vegas -- highly recommended for on-line purchase of parts.) The standard-duty radiator is 7L1Z-8005-A. I should have guessed... The 7L148005BC number on the radiator itself is Ford's engineering number. The dealer says that it cross-references to 7L1Z-8005-B, which is the super-cooling part. So it seems to be the correct part after all. I just wish it were more obvious! Dakota123
Re: current Genesis vs mid-780's Maxima [sls002]

Your comments tend to substantiate my hypothesis that the Genesis is going to cross-appeal to Impala, Maxima, Avalon, even Buick shoppers, and may do very well with that segment. I still can't see it shaving off sales from a Lexus, Cadillac or Mercedes/BMW buyer.... Just because the Hyundai is ridiculously expensive like a Cadillac, doesn't make it a Cadillac.

Sure, this interior is nice. Cadillac's is also nice, and more attractive to me, but I am not the sort that would cross shop a Cadillac and a Hyundai, at any price, or any level. Many will differ, but the Hyundai Genesis would cross shop an Impala for me - a nice one. It may win over the Impala, but if I'm in the market for luxury, I won't go to the Hyundai store, no matter how nice it is. If I'm like my father, who felt that upscale brands were a waste of money, and always bought nice Fords and Chevys, but never Lincolns or Cadillacs, even though he could afford to. He may have liked a Genesis. I would prefer the Cadillac.

Ford will keep Lincoln in that they "have" to; they have no luxury player except Lincoln right now. If the company wasn't in such dire straits, keeping Jag & Land Rover and finishing the great job they started with those two brands would probably have been the best luxury strategy for Ford, inasmuch as Lincoln had been neglected to near death by now. However, though the turnaround may have been close - there was no money left to pump into Jag or L/R and they had to be cut off from the parent to stop the bleeding. Mercury would not be missed if it went away by many, and Lincoln Dealers need much better and more product to sell than they have. However, Volvo isn't a bad fit with Lincoln, IF Volvo isn't sold off for that last bit of cash so desperately needed to stave off the wolves of bankruptcy. Volvo Dealers and Lincoln Dealers could be combined to give the customer some fairly upscale product to cross shop. This never seems to be given any real consideration, but I would think the dealers would be open to it. Couldn't hurt, could it? Are Volvo owners that smug that they would be insulted if Lincolns shared their waiting room in the service department? Anyway, as I said before, Lincoln has nothing to sell. The brand equity has been depleted already and it will be a long time before it's restored in any measurable degree. If Ford is to have a true luxury brand, Lincoln is all they have left, and need to invest the dollars for a Cadillac like comeback. Although, Cadillac is starving now for product and resting on their laurels pretty much too these days......
