I want to add to my comments that the cost savings that the domestics have announced/gotten agreement are now just starting to take effect. I do not think any of the announced truck plants are even closed yet but I could be wrong. They just announced the acceleration of closing the Trailblazer plant and we will probably see more of that. Things have gotten real bad. This credit crunch is really slowing down vehicle sales by both lack of available credit and folks scared of buying anything right now. Look for more announcements to save cash. In response to plummeting sales of large trucks, GM will close down four more North American Assembly plants by 2010. The plants in Janesville, Wisconsin, Oshawa Ontario, Moraine, Ohio, and Toluca, Mexico are already running reduced production schedules and will cease operations entirely as products are discontinued or shifted to other plants. Hello Guys........
by rockylee on Fri Sep 12 00:20:47 PDT 2008
I had a very bad day evening on wednesday without going into details. I guess I shouldn't say it was all bad as a lady from Target HR at one of our local stores loved my resume and me. She forwarded my resume to their investigation department at HQ but told me to apply on-line because I was more than qualified for the job thus i did just that along with applying to Costco & Best Buy. I had one of my best days yesterday 9/11/08 of all days. I went with my brother to find him an apartment and found a great place for him that is like 5 minutes from his work. It was about perfect for his needs. I was called by the border patrol begging me to take the exam but told em' that I would need more time to learn "Spanish" or that so-called "artificial language" thus they asked me to move my exam date to October. I was like I appreciate it sir and heard ya'll need quality people but my god, it's going to be tough finding good people with my skill level that can speak fluent spanish, let alone read and write it in sentences that make sense. He sort of agreed but said he doesn't make the rules. :( So not to jump a head I came home and moved my examination date to October, to give me more time to study. God, only knows if I will pass even getting the extra month to study. I guess my best friend will have to tutor me !!!! I hope she tutors me like Billy Madison !!! :P :D Well my brother signed the lease and at that juncture I had my phone turned off and when we left I turned my phone on and what ya know Best Buy, left me a voicemail and asked I return the call thus I called her back. ;) She says Rocky, you have quite a resume thus I want you to come in for a interview. I asked where I might be working ??? She said you would be part-time with full-time hours but if we like you we will offer you full-time. So I guess I have to take what I can get. I was still excited because it sounds like they might have me working in loss prevention to selling TV's which I guess isn't bad. So now I wait to hear from Target & Costco.........Well I had to rush home because I had to mapquest directions to my 6 p.m. interview for the "Progressive Future" interview. I apologized for being late but those hot chicks were so happy to see me show up they didn't care. I was dressed in all black dress pants and dress shirt with sparkling black leather shoes and kinda looked like one of Himmler's SS officers. So I charmed those women with my knowlege on the issues and told them where I agreed with Barack and disagreed with him but I reassured them I will do my part to help get him elected by getting people our age registered to vote. I said my family is very political, and the majority of them were or currently are union members and we don't need 4 more years of McBush !!!! ;) I felt like a politician in front of them and they said "Rocky, we want to offer you a job" so I agreed to do it part-time because their was no benefits due to limited obvious resources. It was something I felt I needed to do. I have relatives who have ran for office and my 2nd cousin is currently running for senate in Idaho. She has a legit chance to win. I guess politics is in my blood. Barack Obama, has inspired me to get involved and both him and McCain, did a good job talking about "public service" this evening on CNN. :) So yeah I had quite a blessed day. I'm going to call on another job tomorrow my step-mom told me about so hopefully my luck is changing for the better and my prayers are paying off. I wanted to post these articles for ya'll !!!!!!! ;) Today is pension deadline for Delphi Auto parts supplier Delphi has until today to transfer its pension plans for hourly workers to its former parent, General Motors Corp., or the government's pension insurer says it plans to file a claim for another $900 million of Delphi's assets. The lien for missed contributions could be filed as early as today with the Washington, D.C., Recorder of Deeds, said Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. spokesman Jeffrey Speicher. The PBGC has filed $1.6 billion in liens against Delphi's foreign subsidiaries. "PBGC must continue to protect Delphi's pension plan participants and the pension insurance program as the funding deficiencies of Delphi's plans grow ever larger," PBGC Director Charles Millard wrote in a letter Tuesday to Delphi and GM. Closing to be discussed Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is leading a delegation to Detroit today to talk with General Motors Corp. officials about a planned closing of the automaker's plant in Janesville. The automaker plans to close the plant by 2010 because high gas prices have curtailed sales of SUVs, leaving hundreds of people without jobs http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080912/BUSINESS01/809120302/10- 14&GID=9zgobd9WJcLw6bflQKUvoxF579kNV+75aB7oL4JQUAM%3D Things aren't looking good for Delphi !!!!!  "The Rock"

Following the Wisconsin pricing discussion, I have been trying to deal w/ Madison/Janesville area for past week. I have following quotes for EX-L w/RES: 29,304 + TTL & service for total of 31,108.95 29,450 + TTL no fees--no OTD price given I am not clear on whether or not the best deals listed here include TTL. Is this a good deal or are people getting OTD prices of 29K and 30K? Advice welcome.

GM cuts truck production, considers selling Hummer brand "General Motors said today that it is shuttering production at four of its plants that build full-sized pickups and SUVs and it is considering "all options" with its Hummer brand -- including a possible sale. The moves are the result of high gas prices, which GM now views as a permanent market condition, CEO Rick Wagoner said. The automaker also announced it will add a third shift to its small-car plant in Lordstown, Ohio, Wagoner confirmed. GM will be building an all-new Chevrolet compact car at the Lordstown plant, as first reported by Automotive News on Monday. Finally, GM's board of directors has approved the production funding for the gasoline-electric car, the Chevrolet Volt, Wagoner says. "In other words, the Chevy Volt is a go" Wagoner said in a teleconference before the company's annual meeting today in Wilmington, Del. Wagoner said GM still intends to put the Volt for sale at the end of 2010 and to build it at its plant in Hamtramck, Mich. PRODUCTION CUTS GM is reacting to $4-a-gallon gasoline prices by making major cuts in its full-sized pickup and SUV production. The automaker said it will cease production at its Oshawa, Ontario, truck assembly operations in Canada, which builds the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, likely in 2009. GM said its plant in Moraine, Ohio, which builds the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Saab 9-7x, will end production at the end of the 2010 model run, or sooner, if demand dictates. Janesville, Wisc., will cease production of medium-duty trucks by the end of 2009, and of the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon in 2010, or sooner, if market demand dictates." "WILMINGTON, Del. - GM today announced a range of strategic initiatives to aggressively respond to growing demand for fuel-efficient vehicles and to economic and market challenges in North America. Rick Wagoner, GM chairman and CEO, made the announcements here as part of the GM annual meeting of stockholders. Major initiatives announced by Wagoner include: • A new global compact car program for Chevrolet, a next generation for the popular Chevy Aveo, and a high efficiency engine module for the U.S. market. • Funding for production of the Chevy Volt extended-range electric vehicle. • Addition of third shifts to Lordstown and Orion, which build hot-selling Chevy and Pontiac cars. • Cessation of production at four plants that build pickups, SUVs and medium-duty trucks. • A strategic review of the Hummer brand. "From the start of our North American turnaround plan in 2005, I've said that our goal is not just to return GM to profitability, but to structure GM globally for sustained profitability and growth," said Wagoner. "Since the first of this year, however, U.S. economic and market conditions have become significantly more difficult," he said. "Higher gasoline prices are changing consumer behavior, and they are significantly affecting the U.S. auto industry sales mix." In North America, GM has been moving rapidly and successfully to revitalize its car lineup and grow its crossover business. New GM cars and crossovers, including the Cadillac CTS, Chevy Malibu, Pontiac Vibe and Buick Enclave, have been selling strongly, and GM intends to build on this success. In fact, 18 of the next 19 new GM products for the U.S. will be cars or crossovers. Additional operational and strategic actions will be required to position GM for sustainable profitability and growth. These initiatives fall into three broad areas: product and technology, manufacturing facilities and capacity, and the Hummer brand. New Chevrolet models and a high-efficiency engine module approved To further strengthen GM's lineup of fuel-efficient cars, the GM board has approved a next-generation compact Chevy for the U.S. and global markets, a next generation of the popular Chevy Aveo, and a U.S. production module of GM's 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The new Chevy compact will be better equipped than today's compact cars, and will be designed to set quality and safety benchmarks for the compact class. Production will begin in mid-2010 at GM's Lordstown, Ohio, plant, subject to final negotiations with state and local authorities. "This car will represent the first U.S. application of our global architecture strategy," said Wagoner. "This strategy will pay major dividends as we leverage our extensive car product development capability in Europe, Korea, and other locations to accelerate the shift in our U.S. product portfolio." The next-generation compact will be pure Chevrolet in design, and will feature the 1.4-liter turbocharged version of GM's global four-cylinder engine. With this engine and a manual transmission, the new Chevy is expected to achieve a 9 mpg improvement over Chevy's current entry in this segment. The engine will be produced in Flint, Michigan, again subject to final negotiations with state and local authorities. Also recently approved was a next generation of the popular Chevy Aveo. Based on a global architecture, the Aveo is also expected to have segment-leading fuel economy when it goes on sale in the U.S. market in the second half of 2010. These new Chevy models will help build on GM's leadership in fuel efficient vehicles. For example, GM continues to offer more vehicles with a 30-mpg or better highway fuel economy rating than any competitor." http://www.autonews.com/article/20080603/ANA02/455137809/1176/emailblast02&refse- ct=emailblast02
