my lease...
by ssolom2 on Tue Nov 18 06:41:23 PST 2008
i went to the collection in coral gables and thought it woul be tough to negotiate a deal since the dealership is audi, masareti and lotus. they were friendly and i think they gave me a good deal jus wondering your thoughts.. 439 per month tax in 12K miles yr/ 42 months premium with ipod audio jack, and bluetooth 1,000 down they will make my last payment on my current 07' A4 they wanted me to take a car off the lot that day and put me in an A4 premium plus with the new headlights, basically fully loaded except nav, but living in miami the extra package includes heated seats and other options i prob dont need. this car would have been $513 tax in which was a good deal for a $38,000 car.. I was close but opted to stay within budget.. Any opinions would be appreciated..
Re: Why Is Ford Escape Braking Criticized Here and in Consumer Reports? [steve_]
by vg33e power on Mon Nov 17 14:27:59 PST 2008
Steve, I fully accept your comment on that modern drum brake systems provide good performance. It is clearly proven by the addition of ABS in rear drum systems, longevity of shoes, and the fact that they are still widely used and chosen by car manufacturers. You are also correct on the DIY friendliness on "some" rear disc brake systems. Systems that use the same read pads to apply force for parking purposes can be a little tricky and difficult to work with. On the other hand rear disc systems that use a built in drum and dedicated shoes for parking purposes are a much friendly DIY set-up. I honestly think that for the duty that the rear brakes do any option whether it is drum or disc will be more than efficient to slow and/or stop a vehicle. My wife's 2004 Escape Limited 4WD has drums, my 2006 Mazda5 Wagon has discs and I do not feel inadequacy from either. I beleive that the disc set up is really put in place to make the vehicle "look" nicer and to sell replacement parts more often, hence the fact that pads do not last as long as shoes. Just my $0.02
Re: Venza vs. Highlander [rexf]
by mary99 on Fri Nov 14 07:39:47 PST 2008
I'm almost right in the middle of their target demographic with this car, maybe a little young at 43. I don't want an SUV for a few reasons, and Highlander is an SUV. I don't want a third row seat and out where I live nearly all the Highlanders have them. I want to see these special pet-friendly accessories they supposedly are making for the Venza. Also, to get a Highlander with the amenities of the 'base' Venza (dual climate control and such) would I need to buy the top trim level with leather and 4wd and 6cyl? I want FWD, 4cyl, cloth and SmartKey. I thought the Venza was built on the Camry platform? The Highlander is, too?
Re: No bailout without addressing the UAW [gagrice]

Well from one former union member to another their Gary, I do think we union members are a cut above the rest !!! People in unions have a sense of pride and belong to something. I didn't always agree with the unions I belonged too on all issues but when people stick togeather they can improve safety without retaliation, suggestions will be taken serious, and your boss can't tap you on the shoulder when you are older and say your out of here without giving a reason. I have non-union relatives and friends who've had that done to them. Some are afraid they will make too much money and management will replace them with a younger, cheaper, employee. Don't tell me you are naive enough to think that doesn't happen ??? I have a hard time talking to you on these issues because as a union supporter it bothers me that you are a globalist, pseudo-capitalist !!! :confuse: The teamsters I know think a lot more like me than you !!! They are very pro-american, and think we need to rid ourselves of all this shoddy lead tainted goods we import from those commies !!! I never though of myself as having a silver spoon compared to most kids growing up !!! Michigan, use to be a beacon of good jobs from white collar to blue collar and their use to be a mutual respect among all of us playing a major part in contributing to the good of the country. That nationalism, has been lost !!! The UAW, workers are better trained, have more pride, than their non-union competitors. The UAW, agreed to seriously loosing up their restrictive work rules last contract. They found that plants like Lansing, MI. Cadillac plant is safer and more ergonomically friendly to the work force. The Delta plant though is a sweat shop and many injuries have occured in that plant causing surgeries of shoulders, knees, etc, for the older workforce !!! I love how you rail against Obama, on illegal aliens even though your current president and nominee have been pushing for amnesty for the last 4 or 5 years. I will also note that Lou Dobbs, supports the Big 3 bailouts but agrees trade, currency manipulation, and some sort of content laws need to be implemented !!! ;) I know your golden eutopia would be the Reaganomic Theory of trickle down economics but one would think that after 8 years of that program that we need change as the world of business ethics has changed. You can't tax break corporate america into creating jobs. They will however love you if you give them a tax gift as a parting gift to help them pay for that new plant in china !!!   -Rocky
Got My XT Limited at Heuberger on Saturday
by capitano on Wed Nov 12 08:25:56 PST 2008
It had mats, all weather mats, the autodimming mirror, rear bumper cover and the luggage compartment cover. Stickered at $29,565. They let it go for $26,180 which was less than the $26,782 they show on their site for the identical model. I never got a straight answer about the price difference, but I wasn't going to push it. I suspect that it may be the difference between pick up at the dealer and delivery to you. The experience was very smooth. They picked me up at the airport. We drove the car, did the paperwork and then waited for the F&I guy. He was friendly and didn't push terribly hard on the mop&glo products. I'd buy from them again. The worst part of the whole experience was the choppy ride on the puddle jumper into Colorado Springs. I was pretty queasy when I got off that plane.

I wanted a smart phone last spring when we were in the market for new phones .. I wanted to consolidate the gadgets that I carry around. My husband surprised me with an iPhone - albeit the older model (pre-release of the 3G). I absolutely love it. It is very user friendly. That being said, I will tell you that I rarely try to sync things between desktop and the iPhone. There is a backup in the iTunes should I need it. I love the calendar on the iPhone - and can set 2 alerts for appointments. It's a "set it and forget it". The only thing that it does not have is a voice activated dialing. You have to press at least one key to call anyone. The internet can be a bit slow at times, but if you are using it where there is a wireless connection it's very quick. It's extremely easy to text once you are accustomed to the keyboard. In some areas (such as browsing) you can turn the phone horizontally and have a larger keyboard. My husband has a Samsung Blackjack. He loves his phone, but he also asked for an iTouch for his bday in September - which is also loves. My aunt also has an iPhone (since about a year ago) and also really loves the thing. Any other questions? Brenda (goddess_with_an_iPhone)
