Lexus most popular model is built in Canada

Rocky, you're clutching at straws ... Lexus most poplular model (the RX300) is built in Canada. Infiniti QX56 is built in the United States... The Acura TL is built in the United States..... Various Acuras ( as I showed in my link) are built in Canada And more and more factories are coming. But regarding foreign built - what percentage of "Domestics" are built outside the United States? However, I apologize for claiming that currency manipulation is a non-issue. Here is an article that says that the Michigan Democrats in Congress are claiming that (as you state) currency manipulation is indeed a problem. However - you're not going to like Toyota's solution: They not going to go out of business as you hope: They're going to build even more cars..... in America, but not in Michigan. Toyota may Face Backlash from Congress Here's the money quote from the article: Josephine Cooper, Toyota's group vice president for government and industry affairs, said the company hasn't seen "an appetite for discriminatory actions against foreign-based automakers beyond some in the Michigan delegation. I think you can attribute that to the concern for their companies." Members of Congress who support domestic automakers concede they face major hurdles. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., noted that "you can't swing a dead cat in the parking lot (on Capitol Hill) without hitting a Toyota or Honda or a Mitsubishi . I don't believe it's a political problem." The Camry, after all, remains the nation's top-selling passenger car. Rogers, who grew up in the rural outskirts of Detroit, said he remembered the days when "you did not consider buying a foreign car. Now I think the attitude of America has changed." The backlash that Toyota fears? From being too successful.

I guess i need to work on getting my specific point across in my posts. There was some discussion upthread of how practical the EV with its limited range might be for the average Josephine. I provided evidence that most households have two vehicles already and therefore an EV's limited range might not be a problem for many...thus allowing it to compete as far more than a niche market car. I wasn't really talking about environmental issues at all.

it's probably cheaper to make a FWD... GM STYLE! Brand basher, I believe it was the Asian car makes that brought us FWD. For the average Joe or Josephine, FWD is just fine, particularly in the snow belt. RWD is great for performance drivers. But then some love AWD.

(like S2000 and the various SIs over the years) Thanks for reminding me. I like the S2000 a lot and should not have overlooked it. Unfortunately, it defined the meanin of niche laright. Honda made no effort to make it broadly available. I suspect because it did not fit, nor could it ever, Honda's tried and true method of selling Accords and Civics at decent markup as fast as they can make them. And of course, we have yet to see real-world testing of GM's dual-phase system, so we can't really say yet how that one will perform for regular Joes (and Josephines! ) either. Definitely a work in process. GM is not the only one touting it, however. Daimler which like GM can count its eggs before they hatch, and BMW, which usually always comes through, both say the dual phase is going to be good. We shall see.

has done a very good job of sporty, but only in niche cars with small sales (like S2000 and the various SIs over the years). They certainly have no Mustang, that's for sure. Even the Celica never got close to Mustang-type sales (except almost 25 years ago, the sales heyday of the Celica). Honda outselling Chrysler Group with its truncated line-up (as opposed to Chrysler's very full line-up) is perhaps bigger news than Toyota surpassing Ford. logic: "At this point, I see nothing to suggest Toyota will challenge any of the big 3 full size pick ups." Even Toyota can't "see" their hybrid system for the next-gen Tundra, as it is not developed yet! That's why it will be introduced after all the other powertrains and configurations, at least two years from now. And of course, we have yet to see real-world testing of GM's dual-phase system, so we can't really say yet how that one will perform for regular Joes (and Josephines! :-)) either. I would love to see them both make a hybrid system that works well for peoples' needs and averages better than 20 mpg in these huge trucks.
