Re: I've noted the "Goof Balls" [fintail]
by jensad on Tue Nov 18 10:49:37 PST 2008
Good morning everyone I watch for the drivers with the "death grip" on the wheel. Usually their head is tilted forward towards the wheel, why I have no clue. But their death grip tells me to steer far away as they many times turn w/o signals, and not withstanding the car in front of them is 50 yards ahead, they will abruptly apply their brakes and slow down to an even slower speed then they were just traveling. And it seems that this time of year, people are concerned with other things and forget to drive courteously. Me too. But I catch myself and try to adjust MY driving too. I always hated to work the mid night shift when there was a full moon, and it was raining. But then working the 10 pm to 6 am was usually busy and strange. Especially so with full moon and rain. Seems like all of us are experiencing strange driving in the states we live in. Or maybe its "normal". Good luck to all and stay safe.
Re: 2009 Accord EX-L Price Paid in MA [cape2007]
by initialj on Tue Nov 18 10:38:48 PST 2008
Thanks very much for the information. I emailed Silko and they responded right away for clarification but I haven't heard from them since. The extended warranty would've been nice though. It seems like it would cost ~$1,700 elsewhere. Herb Chambers gave me a quote of $24,560 for the Coupe and $24,470 for the Sedan (2009, automatic, 4 cyl, EX-L). It's interesting how the price that gave you is $1k lower than what I got. Then again, the demo car that I mentioned in the first post is from Herb Chambers so perhaps they were still trying to push that car to me. I did email several other places and the one worth mentioning is Honda Village, $23,460 for the sedan and $23,660 for the coupe. I ended up going with Boch Honda, after having worked out the price on the phone with a sales manager, and because of the color selection. Below is the breakdown of what I paid for a 2009 Accord Coupe EX-L, automatic: Base price: $23,400 Added wheel locks: $91 5% MA Sales Tax: $1174.55 Title Preparation w/ registration: $86.00 Documentary Preparation: $298.00 TOTAL PRICE: $25,049.55 It seems like the best way to go is to negotiate with a sales manager. In my case, the prices that they give over the phone/email, are the lowest that they're willing to go so my advice is to email as many sales managers as you can in your area and don't waste your time by going to a dealership thinking you can negotiate much lower in person. Oh, and in response to jb_turner about backing out on the proposed price: in order to move forward and actually propose the price, I needed to put down a deposit and it would be for a car that they needed to swap with another dealer. So there was the risk of the car being damaged upon transportation (someone driving it and not being delivered on a flatbed truck), and that's assuming that the car can even be swapped. And if it can't, my deposit would be locked down for an indefinite amount of time. Thanks again to everyone and happy shopping!
UPDATE: My experience with an '06 NISMO... not overly good [rimcut1]
by rimcut1 on Tue Nov 18 10:31:51 PST 2008
Well.. when I was last here, I was sitting at home waiting on the hook to take my truck BACK to the dealer twenty minutes after having picked it up. Turns out that trip was caused by the dealer reprograming my key and not asking me about a second key, and once I picked the truck up the very next time I started it I used my second key and killed the truck. Dealership ate the tow bill and apologized all over themselves. Ok, no problem. Stuff happens. Now, let me briefly recap my recent experiences. 1) Aug. 12 and 67,993 miles, $500+ repair bill for wheel seal and resulting damaged brake pads. 2) Sept. 2 and 69,548 miles, $541(plus an $85 tow bill) repair bill for some sort of power distribution box. And now......... drum roll please......... man, you just cannot make this stuff up...... 3) Nov. 18th and 75,348 miles the P.O.S. is in the shop again!!!!!!!! About two hours into my day the following warning lights came on, sometimes flashing, sometimes alternating turns and sometimes simply all staying on, "ABS, LOCK, SLIP, VDC OFF." I was working (again, truck is my office) and an hour from home when this crap started. So, I canceled two appointments and turned around to head back home and to the dealer. So........ once again, driving a rental (more $) so I can continue to work while the dealer has my truck. I am absolutely fed up with Nissan. Never, NEVER will I ever again buy a freaking Nissan of any type. This is almost to the point of feeling like a bad dream. EXCEPT I'M PAYING FOR IT!!!!!! I bought my first Nissan since "buy a Toyota or Nissan and it will be trouble free" seems to be the mantra of the automotive world. Well, in all of my vehicle owning life (15 I think, all Ford except for one Chevy and one Jeep) I have never, NEVER had a vehicle with a track record even remotely this bad. This is pathetic. What really sucks is that I'm stuck with the thing for quite a while. It's not like I can go trade it still owing 2 years on it. I am so screwed. I'm actually thinking I looking for something used to drive for work and just let this P.O.S. sit in my driveway. This is nuts. It's to the point that I simply cannot afford to drive a Nissan. Add my payments and my repair bills I could have bought a freaking BMW or something. I hate my NISMO and I hate Nissan. For the first time in my life I have a vehicle in which I have ZERO confidence. Zero. I have looked, unsuccessfully, and am going to continue looking for some anti-Nissan bumper stickers. Once I find some, I am going to freaking cover the rear of my truck in Nissan bashing stickers.
Re: 09 Pontiac Vibe AWD [vibeguy37]
by gmloyal60 on Tue Nov 18 10:28:55 PST 2008
I have 2,000 miles on my new 2009 AWD Vibe and I'm getting the EPA estimates of 20 and 26. I also own a 2006 FWD Vibe and get great mileage on it. I was hoping my conservative driving habits might yield somewhat better mpg on the '09AWD but I guess I was forewarned. My son has a 2003 AWD Vibe and still loves it. I drove it the other day and quickly noticed how much more "free wheeling" the older AWD model was. I don't know why there is this difference but my '09 has a lot more drag on it. It even will slow down on a level surface or a slight downgrade with my foot off of the accelerator! Is this the experience of others? I'd be interested in knowing.

Re: My Top (Bottom?) 5 [uofmg35]
by graphicguy on Tue Nov 18 10:08:37 PST 2008
OK....I'll jump in....top 5 (bad) vehicles -Hummer.....anything. Looked ridiculous when they came out. Look even more ridiculous now. Go so far to say that when people put custom "wheels" on them, the even look hideous. -Scion XB....for the same price as a well equipped corolla, you get s silly looking "wagon" that sounds course and looks even worse than a vanilla Corolla. The original was "unique". This one looks like the designers dropped an ink blot on the floor and decided to put it into their CAD system as a design. -Smart Car....looks foolish, drives terrible, takes premium fuel, and my lawnmower has less noise, vibration and harshness than the Smart. Every time I see one, I keep expecting a Shriner to exit from it. -Escalade ESV pickup. If you're going to go over the top with a design, go all the way. This one looks like the crusher missed the entire front end, and only chopped off the back end....then put an MSRP sticker on it and shipped it to the dealership. -Mitsubish EVO. I know that this car has a lot of dynamic "goodness". But, how much "boy racer" can you possibly put into a car before it becomes as esthetic joke? The answer....EVO. Just a quick note about the '09 TL. I know I'm in the minority, but I like the redesign. You put the new one, side-by-side to the previous gen, and the old one looks ancient, by comparison. Any car that pulls .83g on the skid pad. And, goes 0-60 in under 7 secs, is hardly overweight, at least not for the amount of power it has. Got to drive one at the formal "unveiling" at my local dealership. Being the former owner of an '04 TL, everything about the new one is better, across the board. Now, I understand that the leftover '08s are being steeply discounted. And, for the money they're currently selling at, they are a bargain. That makes the difference in real world price fairly significant between the old and the new. But, the '09s are starting to be discounted, too. This time next year, the price between the new gen and previous gen will shrink as the discounting should become more aggressive. It would be hard not to seriously consider an '09 if those discounts get generous.
