We don't own it yet, but if all goes well (inspection, loan app, etc) then it would be in north Ocean City, very near the DE border and close to Fenwick Island. -juice
OC vs. Myrtle
by lucien2 on Thu Feb 17 15:25:05 PST 2005
that's a fair comparison. We always did Bethany, which boasts no Big Pecker's or Brass Balls Saloon or Hooters etc.etc. North OC and Fenwick are nice too. I've done North OC the last couple of years in the off season (for $$ reasons)
Beaches on the Eastern Shore

OK, here's the break down, the real deal, from North to South:   Lewes, DE: nice Cape May-Lewes Ferry ride, smallish beach   Rehoboth, DE: artsy beach, outlets, great tax free shopping, decent sized boardwalk with rides and food   Dewey, DE: party town, college crowd, all-nighters, forget sleeping   Bethany, DE: family beach, very quiet, a few restaurants, small boardwalk with mostly food offerings   Fenwick Island, DE: Ocean City light   Ocean City, MD: North is like Fenwick, South is crowded, has a *huge* boardwalk, crowds, most variety, water slides, mini golf, etc.   If you don't mind crowds, go to Ocean City, it has the most to do.   If you like shopping, try Rehoboth, it's the most interesting, probably. You will find lots of Foresters there, if you know what I mean.   If you want to party, walk to bars, Dewey is it.   Bethany is the quiet beach, and a 20-30 minute drive gets you to any of the other places.   We bought a condo in North Ocean City, but we are 2 blocks from the Mason-Dixon line, so really it's almost Fenwick. Quiet enough, but close to the action. We shop in Bethany, party in Dewey, and take the kids out in OC.   -juice
Re: DE vs. MD for summer vacation? [bluesubie]

How is Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach, DE? Are those a little more laid back? Is the juice pad in DE? :-)   Definitely more laid back, and more family-friendly. Also perhaps more expensive?   Juice's place is in the north end of Ocean City, I believe.
DE vs. MD for summer vacation?
by bluesubie on Wed Feb 16 07:48:57 PST 2005
We're in a condo rental program and we're planning our July vacation and want to pick a spot within a few hours of NJ.   We haven't been to MD or DE and wanted to get some suggestions. From what I hear about Ocean City, it sounds similar to Myrtle Beach, SC (where I'm from and will also be visting this summer).   How is Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach, DE? Are those a little more laid back? Is the juice pad in DE? :-)   -Dennis

I had the day off, so we hit the beach. Two days of rain, one day cold and cloudy, but it was still fun. There was actually a little flooding in Fenwick Island, some of the roads had standing water. It was funny to see the two other cars in our group have to tip-toe around it, while my Forester easily got by (with the extra ground clearance helping a lot). Got gas on the Eastern Shore, after I crossed the bridge, to avoid that sniper. He's at it again. Also got gas right before crossing the Bay Bridge on the way back. Good thing this full tank will last me a couple of weeks! Have fun, Kate. You won't see many Subies if you're staying in the city. I'll guess: Overall: 2 Brazil: 2 Argentina: 0 Chile: 0 The only WRC replicas you'll see a lot of are Peugoets, because they build them there. Food? Yum. Make sure you sample Feijoada (black bean stew), Churrasco (gaucho bar-B-Q), and lots of Camarao (shrimp) varieties. Most of South America speaks Spanish, and Brazil speaks Portuguese. But don't forget the 3 Guyanas, where English, Dutch, and French are the official languages. -juice
