Re: 2001 I30 bad gas mileage and clicking noise when accelerating [chpccm]

My 2000 (same engine) definitely gets better mileage with 91 octane, more than enough to offset the higher price. (On a road trip through Dixie where 93 was common, I averaged more than 28 mpg.) Typically I get 20-22 in town.

Now you're talking. I have a much better feel for you now that you have elaborated a little more. Late edit: note, I wrote 34307 before I read your 34305. I have never really had any strong objections to anything you've said in the past. I guess this is why I fell out of my chair in shock when you mentioned the CC thing in the OP. From these forums I have learned that a "good" salesman can smell who is a serious prospect (if not a serious buyer) and who is whistling Dixie. I will admit that the CC thing would seperate the serious from the tire kickers, but I am afraid that certain percentage of folks like me are going to be offended by the notion. From your posts, I have always put you in the "good" category. I hope you can understand my apprehensions with the CC thing -- it is just not my style or what I am used to here. Thanks for your comments.

My ~90 mile drive today which is half stop and go 50 mpg speed limit and half 60 mph steady I got 20.5 mpg. I made a VERY conscious effort at keeping the economy meter in the main green area--which is pretty difficult and slow moving off. It is not my natural driving style to pull away that slowly, and I really felt like I was holding up traffic. Dixie--to achieve your 20.2, are you watching that gauge all the time, or can you drive as normal?
Re: High Pitched Whistling Sound [unregretable]

Well, I brought my car in on Monday (6/09/08) and did a test run with one of the garage guys. He heard it, so Nissan had me leave my car with them. They held my car all day Monday, and all day Tuesday, and all day Wednesday. They apparently tried a number of different things (including reseating the door), but nothing worked... although they did manage to put on about 100 miles to my car. On Thursday, they called to tell me they have diagnosed the problem to be the outside mirrors... but Nissan HQ still doesn't quite know how to fix it. They said HQ is aware of the issue, and knows the simply replacing the mirrors won't fix the problem, so they're "working on it." They then told me they would call me back in a week or two with a remedy... just as soon as Nissan HQ tells them what to do. So for right now... it's Whistlin' Dixie for me, although after they worked on it, they managed to tone it down a bit, so now it's just a high pitched squeal, rather than a whistle. A friend of mine (a former Mercedes worker from Germany) recommended I put plastic wrap (like from the kitchen) over the mirror to stop the whistling. He said a little plastic wrap and some tape, and that should be a good temporary fix... just don't cover the mirror part. I'm going to give that a try... at least until they fix it. I'll update more when (if) they fix it.

I assume the first BMW Dixi was not a real AWD xi. LOL. I am not sure if that Dixi still had a chain instead of live axle. :D Regards, Jose
