Re: $18,600 OTD for base sport [oldfashioned]
by derrickson on Mon Oct 06 10:27:53 PDT 2008
hi oldfashioned, i was waiting until it was "official" (aka took delivery), but as we've emailed a few times, and are heading over tomorrow for pickup, confidence is high this will be completed. now, if during the test drive, black smoke is bellowing from the exhaust, i'll be singin a different tune, but until then, the dealer is: Russell & Smith Mazda / Houston, TX. The Sales Mgr is David Rawls and my salesperson was Fred Session. That said, we did not do any negotiating whatsoever. Spent more time waiting in line for gas during hurricane Ike than I did purchasing this vehicle.... :)

???Toyota Tundra Rawlings Package???
by gkb on Tue Sep 25 18:57:38 PDT 2007
Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I was in the process of buying this truck, I returned it after learning it was not a toyota package. They originally told me it was a limited edition package for 2007. I called around and nobody had heard of it. I would still like to give the Toyota a try however, I am a bit worried. Thanks in advance for any input!!!!
Vacation Trip – Real MPG
by ocmike3 on Wed Aug 09 17:47:20 PDT 2006
Just returned form 8 days of travel, putting 4286 miles on our 2006 FWD V6 VUE.(Odo now has 7450 miles) I believe that I can support the EPA mileage estimates of 28 mpg Highway for the most part. Total miles driven 4286 and we used 167.6 gallons petrol. This equals an average of 25.6 mpg for the entire trip. (A total of 16 stops to add gasoline.) Best mileage: 28.5 mpg on two tanks: Rawlings, WY to N. Platte, NB & Rawlings, WY to Tremonten, UT Worst mileage: 21.4 mpg: Cheyenne, WY to Rawlings, WY We ran consistently 70-75+ mph through Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska & many areas of Missouri. (Speed limits are 70 or 75 mph in most areas we drove in these states.) The killer seemed to be wind. On the tanks we got the lowest mileage, we were bucking strong 25-30 mph head winds. I’m very happy with the mileage as we cruised loaded at 70 -75 mph for 12+ hours on 4-5 of the days we traveled. Two adults, two kids and all our stuff; 700 – 800 pounds of people and stuff. If we had taken it easy and cruised 60 – 65 mph; I’m betting the mileage would have pushed 30 mpg on several tanks. (We got 4 tanks @ 27.96, 28.5, 27.8, 28.5 mpg and 26 mpg or better on 7/16 tanks.) :)
Slick is GOOD.

Slick (as in smooth, non-stick, un-creased) is how I WANT me seats to stay! For the lil' ones car seats just get that good "rubber mesh" style shelf liner stuff. It is cheap, works great and comes in many colors. This is one popular brand -- http://www.duckproducts.com/ProductCatalog/detail.asp?catid=5&amp- ;subid=23&plid=103 As for the steering wheel, I think that you have to either decide it will be protected OR wear out. Even baseball gloves EVENTUALLY need to be replaced and NO manufacturer uses leather THAT thick on the wheel (even if some have done a good job reproducing the color/texture of a Rawlings)...
Fuel economy?
by a36 on Sat Aug 18 08:30:19 PDT 2001
When my 2WD XLT (V6)was 6 weeks old and at 535 miles we drove it from near Ft. Worth to Park City, UT. Admittedly this is not the time that fuel economy should be computed, but here are the results. First of all this is not a high altitude car and an awful lot of these numbers are from altitudes of 5,000' and higher. The owners manual cautions you about buying the 85 octane fuel in high altitude locations, as a result almost all fuel is mid or premium grade. The 22.5 gallon tank makes it neccessary to buy fuel only twice a day on a trip like this - full at departure and one fill up at lunch - fillup at days end. 677 miles on the first day (refueled in Amarillo) ended day at Pueblo, CO - 19.025 mpg. 619 miles the second day (refueled in Rawlings, WY) refueled at intersection of I-80 and US40 very near Park City (Park City is not a cheap place to buy fuel!) 20.365 mpg. Nearly all of this driving was at the speed limits of 65 to 75 mph. All across the plains of WY (elevations 6,000' to 8,000' ASL) the limit is 75 mph and that is what the cruise control was set on. For 1,312 miles (some local driving in TX was on the first tank) 66.022 gals. and an average 19.87 mpg. A recent tank fillup that encompassed only 191.9 miles (1/3 around town and the rest going down hill into Salt Lake and back up the hill to P/C) was 10.621 gals - 18.067 mpg. The vehicle has over 3,000 miles now and this was all COSTCO 91 octane fuel. Will write more when we return to TX at the begining of next month. That trip will be through the mountains of CO to intersect I-25 south of Pueblo and will be an interesting comparison to the all interstate driving.
