Re: random misfire [rgnmstr]
by brucelinc on Tue Nov 18 07:32:28 PST 2008
It is a bit tight. A few scapes and scratches are par for the course. Really, though, it isn't as bad as it looks. Once the covers are off and the coil connections are free, the coils pull up and out. The coil boots are 6-8 inches long but are flexible. The first time I had a misfire, I had the dealer do a stress test and he found one bad coil. They participated in an After Warranty Adjustment on that one. Later I had another one go bad so I decided to change the remaining seven myself. I had already changed the plugs once so I knew what I was getting into but had no way to figure out which coil was actually the culprit. Eventually, they all seem to fail anyway. An independent shop might not be too spendy. I don't know what the flat rate manual would say in terms of the time needed for labor but I doubt if it would be more that a couple of hours - just a guess.

The diesel doesn't come with run-flat tires? That's news to me. I still say the 328i is the better choice. I think getting an additional 6 or 7 MPG on the Highway is great, but it's not worth suffering such a low-revving engine, an automatic transmission, pushing an extra 300 lbs through corners, and paying an extra $10,000 for a car that isn't any quicker.
Re: Spare tire winch problem [sanzhang]

I had a flat about four weeks ago and could not lower the spare tire. I was able to lower the cable and the tire spun, but as reported previously, the spare tire got jammed up at the top and was not coming down. Now I need to go to a garage to get the spare tire out. On top of this, the spare is also busted and could not be repaired. Need to look for another spare as well. Well, atleast I got the flat fixed quickly!! Sri.
2008 Honda Crv MPG information - Year's worth of observations
by d07 on Mon Nov 17 10:42:23 PST 2008
Our 08 AWD CRV LX is one year old and here is the data I've accumulated and condensed. Before 1st Oil Change -(Regular Mineral oil) Overall - 23.7 Mpg After First Oil Change - (Honda/Mobil 1 5w-20 Synthetic) Overall - 27 Mpg (Same driving technique, same route and same amount of miles put each day) Overall City 19-22 Mpg Overall Highway - 29-32 Mpg Worst observed 18.9mpg ( @ 5mph in a snow storm traffic jam) Best observed 39.8 mpg (Flat road, 55 mph, a/c on, slight tailwind) Data collected at every fuel filling. Only additives used: Fuel system cleaner before oil change Present mileage 16000 Miles Air-conditioner on or off made no accountable difference. Driving Style: Very light foot, low electrical demands, 2 occupants, one dog sometimes, about 130 lbs cargo load in the car at most times. I hope the above information serves as a guide for anyone interested. If anyone can give me any tips to improve my mpg without spending $$$ - I'd appreciate that. :D
Re: Best Gas Mileage Modifications [sdtrex]

From the choices you have given, I know that most of the above would work, but in optimal situations when great demand is placed on the engine. But I suspect that each one will give you fractions more on the gallon in terms of MPG, and most probably will be offset by the increase in weight especially if the part is an add-on and not a replacement. there certainly would be horsepower gains noticed but at optimal engine rpms -( ie; driving like grandpa really wouldn't allow any perceived improvement). Driving for economy usually results in pumping losses, inertial losses and sometimes taking unusually longer time to reach optimal speed. But some things that can certainly help considering your driving habits would be: 1)Synthetic oil . (may gain between 1-4 mpg depending on the engine type and condition - ie, wear) 2)Less restrictive air filter (may be 0-.5 mpg improvement) 3)Tires inflated 2-4 psi above manufacturer recommendation ( 0.1 - 0.3 mgp improvement - careful with this to prevent premature wear and poor handling) 4)using a engine warmer in winter so engine reaches optimal temp quickly) 5)Changing transmission, differential fluids & other lubricants regularly - once a year maybe to keep friction robbing wear at bay.( but not overdoing it) 6)Developing correct driving technique for acceleration, cruise and slowing down. 7)Limiting alternator loads by using less power demands - high blower speed, music loud, heated, seats dome/interior lights on when vehicle is off. 8)Taking out unnecessary weight like removable seats etc. if any of you out there have any more tips - please let me know as well. I have a 2008 Honda Crv City driving, 21 MPG Highway 29-34 MPG Really light foot - flat road - 39 MPG - (No Hypermiling)

funny you should bring up the 2010 Pininfarina-Bollore B0 I have my eye on. We(wife and I)just got a new HP Pavilion Desktop with scads of memory and a 4-in-1 printer-copier-fax-scanner, 22-inch flat screen monitor that tilts so you can read it in Portrait and Lancscape, etc. I mean, the computer this HP I bought a week and a half ago replaces my first computer, bought in Jan. of 2000! We just took a giant leap forward in technology(and huge RAM and processor speed!). So, yesterday I researched this new little all-electric from Pininfarina-Bollore and had a ball doing it. I put the car on as my background picture on my Windows page with all the icons. She spotted it late last night and here we go..."Don't you go and buy another new car! " The fact is though is that this all-EV appears to be just what I have been looking or...well-thought out by the manufacturer and a nice looking little rig, too. Lots of research must still be done, though(Warranty and Price, mainly)but if they don't price this thing over say $29,995 USD, the car will remain in contention for our next car. However, only 10,000 become available in late 2010, so one can not sit on his hands waiting if he wants one, eh? It's going to be an absolute ball researching it. I have pre-set parameters that I look at while researching and this car has passed all tests(there's a lot of them, believe me)so far with flying colors. :shades:
