OK....just like qbrozen was insulted by my Volvo remarks, I'm going to have to take exception to your denigration of fine American muscle, roadburner. Sorry, no offense intended. For what it's worth, back in the '70s I drove a 1974 Monte Carlo equipped as follows: L82 Air filter/valve covers Crane HT Cam/lifters Edelbrock Performer Intake Q-Jet carb(calibrated by yours truly) Recurved Delco Distributor/Mallory Unilite/MSD5 Blackjack Headers 3" dual exhaust with Cherry Bomb Q (Turbo) mufflers B&M Transpak(Street/Strip calibration) Flex-a-lite 15000 lb.GVW Transmission cooler 3:42 Final Drive Ratio No, it wasn't blindingly fast, but I was able to blow off 99% of the contemporary model Z28s, Trans Ams and Corvettes(do you detect a pattern here?) that I lined up against. It would chirp the tires on both the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts at anything over half throttle. As a matter of fact, I'd probably buy a 2008/9 Bullitt Mustang today if I could get one on S-Plan...

Hi Mallory! welcome to the forum. First the correct spelling is Camry which means a small crown and it's derived from the Japanese word "kanmuri". Toyota has an obsession with crowns. The Corolla also means crown as in the crown around the sun. They also produced a car called the Corona which also means crown in spanish. Anyway, the Camry has been the best selling car in the US for the last 9 out of ten years or it might be 10 out of the last 11 years. I've lost track. It's currently on its sixth generation (2007-present) and it has grown substantially from when it was first introduced in the US in 1982 (first generation) and it looked like the typical econo-box of that era. The Camry is one of the most reliable vehicles ever made by Toyota. The biggest competitor has always been the Honda Accord which is a fine automobile in its own right. It is built primarily in Georgetown Kentucky, and also in Japan for US distribution. Toyota has several plants in North America as one of their commitments is to build the cars they sell in the country they are selling them. There is a ton of info I could give you and I don't want to bore you so let me know specifically what it is you need to do. You mentioned persuasive, in what way? Mack :shades: :shades: :shades:

Are the spoilers any different to these kids today than the chrome valve covers and Crager SS's we had when we were younger????? I'd say yes, at least with respect to the crowd I hung out(and street raced) with back in the '70s. My 1974 Monte Carlo was fitted with 15x7 S/S Cragars and L82 valve covers, but I had also installed the following: Crane HT Cam Edelbrock Performer Intake Q-Jet carb(calibrated by yours truly) Recurved Distributor/Mallory Unilite/MSD5 Blackjack Headers 3" dual exhaust with Cherry Bomb Q (Turbo) mufflers B&M Transpak 15000 lb.Transmission cooler 3:42 Final Drive Ratio No, it wasn't blindingly fast, but I was able to blow off 99% of the late model Z28s, Trans Ams and Corvettes that I lined up against. I could chirp the tires on both the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts at anything over half throttle. And EVERY guy/girl in our crowd had a car that backed up the looks with above average performance. In contrast, I'd say that the overwhelming majority of the coffee can exhausted/winged/lowered cars are little-if any-faster than stock. I know that I've blown off more than a few of those losers with my Jeep Wrangler 4.0 5 speed. My son thinks that it's hysterical, especially when one of the kids performs a "Loser Fly-By" and gives us the finger... :P

What's nice about the Pertronix is that you can keep the old points in the glovebox for when the electronic ignition goes south in Death Valley. I wouldn't do this to a K code Mustang though, as they use a special dual-point Mallory system and you should keep that stock.

No problem repairdog, figured that out this morning. have done a host of things mainly checking and re checking things in leu of having much to go on as far as diagnostic tools. I've noticed that there is no fuel entering the top left throat of the TBI. Is this the secondary? Noticed a pinched wire leading to the injector. Wire integrity seems ok, have insulated it the best I can. Have wired in a Jacobs FC 1000 ignition module and it starts with no problems so I can rule out any problems with the ignition system. I work at Mallory Electric so I guess I can talk to a few people there and maybe find out more.
