Re: 2009 328ci SULEV Fuel Pump [shipo]
by teebone1958 on Tue Nov 18 08:40:44 PST 2008
In reponse to your comment labeled #1, I am sorry, but your research has lead you to the wrong conclusion. Basically, in CARB-following states, a certain percentage of the models offered for sale by a manufacturer must comply with certain emissions levels (referred to as LEV, ULEV or SULEV). BMW has chosen to make some of their lower-end models (128s and 328s) in SULEV-variants for sale in these states. The SULEV-variants have a slightly different engine with a reportedly minor performance reduction to comply with the required standards. This allows the car maker to continue to produce its higher-performance models (e.g. 335i, M3, et al.) free of CARB compliance concerns. If you dig deeper, you can find the 328 reviews listed for both SULEV and non SULEV models. Here is an example link (note both type of models listed): http://www.thecarconnection.com/modelintro/bmw_3-series_2009 In response to #2, the price is for the entire gas tank assembly including all the pumps, filters, and electronics in contains. This has been verified through a second dealership. Once again, the problem is the design of the SEALED tank which prohibits the replacement of the contained mechanical part (fuel pump) and filter. Thanks anyway....

Hi kshankar. Manufacturers report their inventory levels on a monthly basis, but unfortunately, they do not break them down by model year. Car_man Host Prices Paid: Buying & Leasing Experiences Forum

donna388- grad's got it right here - hp is torque delivered over time. the actual formula is hp= (torque*rpm)/5252. In itself and as a measure of any car's ability to accelerate, the higher the HP the better the acceleration times, not necessarily the torque. If the Maxima is about the same weight as the 6 you are talking about, the Maxima's 290hp would easily blow away the 6s 260+. Otherwise we could all be driving around in rev challenged diesels that despite 350 lb ft. (or more) of torque still can't get out of their own way. Wouldn't we? :confuse: Yes it is certainly torque that you feel in the seat of your pants when you initially hit the accelerator (as grad noted) BUT it is the abililty of any engine to rev quickly (or apply that torque in a given period of time (making HP)) that determines actual accelerative power. Truck buyers worship torque numbers and tend to buy things like those slow diesels for precisely these reasons - they have big loads they need to get moving and are less concerned with how long it might take to get to any given speed. I would also challenge you on the 'modern" V6 assertion on the DT. While the engine is obviously putting out 50 or 60 extra horses than the old DT, is not nearly the 210hp 'dog' that it was comparatively, it is still requiring more displacement to do it. Plain and simple the Nissan VQ is getting quite a bit more hp per unit of displacement than either the Ford or Mazda DT. Furthermore the Ford/Mazda engine is still a coupla generations behind in the valve train design , simple VVT on the intake valves vs. CVVTi intelligent (computer controlled) continuously variable intake AND exhaust valve timing on undeniably the best V6 of this group - the Toyota 2GR. Now that engine - is 'modern' - and innovative. Recent updates have pulled the VQ to almost the same levels as the 2GR, but not quite - it is the VQs remarkable history that sets it above all the rest, including the newer Toyota design.

Well those UAW, retiree members might as well ask teachers to give up their health and retiree benefits also to share in the sacrifice. Hell everyone needs to have their pension, healthcare, 401K benefits cut so we can help "every company" not have to borrow money to provide their goods or services I would expect there may be some cities and states that will have to cut retiree benefits. Our AK Teamster retirees lost all health care benefits years ago. They could see it was going to break the retirement fund. It is not any fault except the UAW brass that believed there was an endless supply of money. I could have my pension cut if the fiduciaries feel that more is going out than coming in. It is their responsibility to keep the retirement in the black. It is not the tax payers responsibility. It is the UAW leadership's responsibility. They are a gigantic failure. It's not like we've seen automobile, clothing, food, healthcare, cost become cheaper in the "free-market" Are you kidding me. You said your brother just bought a new car for 35% less than MSRP. Cloths are cheaper in the free market. Food has leveled out since fuel went back down. Health care is out of control for sure. The bottom line is if people like the UAW, workers make less it will have a domino effect and you can kiss a lot of small business good bye You need to get out and look around. You tried selling GM cars to a public that was not buying. There are a lot of businesses already going belly up. While UAW workers are still making more than the average. So why should the money go to GM and not these smaller companies that are already hurt. You think that will make the cars affordable. My friend that got laid off at a big Ford agency along with 7 other technicians, told me they only sold 3 cars in October. A year ago they sold 300 a month. Looks to me like the Big 3 have already failed. What would throwing good money at them do? The Big 3 and their UAW cronies need to accept the fact that they are a gigantic FAILURE. They are NO longer a viable business model. Billions of tax dollars will not fix the problem. Only prolong the end. For those that have already lost jobs due to Big 3 FAILURES, are just as important as the prima donna UAW workers. Gettlefinger and his high and mighty attitude makes me want to puke.

UAW leader says no more concessions COLUMBUS, Ohio – Even as Detroit's Big Three teeter on collapse, United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger said Saturday that workers will not make any more concessions and that getting the automakers back on their feet means figuring out a way to turn around the slumping economy. "The focus has to be on the economy as a whole as opposed to a UAW contract," Gettelfinger told reporters on a conference call, noting the labor costs now make up 8 percent to 10 percent of the cost of a vehicle. "We have made dramatic, dramatic changes and the UAW was applauded for that," he said. "We cannot afford to allow to see this industry collapse. There is a real concern that could happen." The extreme levels of both denial and arrogance in the senior management at this union are just incredible, especially given Gettelfinger's last statement there. They really will ignore reality until they have lost all their members their jobs..... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081115/ap_on_bi_ge/auto_bailout_gettelfinger

That is a particularly short sighted article in light of the fact Santa Monica is located and affected by the Santa Anna winds. To wit, the "natural" state of CA are: every 5 years UNMITIGATED and MASSIVE wild fires up and down the length of the state. :lemon: The reason CA has these so called "uncontrollable /untame able" disasters like the current burning of Monteceito, CA and habitually Malibu, CA , are unnatural CA policies of stopping natural wild fires: ergo the various fuels pile/s up to "disaster levels." LIterally anything from a very natural lightning strike to a BBQ ember can set off a potential disaster. Of course, you are enjoined from removing this stuff. Getting permits to remove this stuff and or control burns are literally considered environmentally unsound and literally impossble... So the consequences are..... almost predictable. The only question is the WHEN probability. :lemon: .
