LOL!! Story isn't finished yet. Now we need to find a headboard and platform, nightstands and dresser. Earlier in the week I had stopped by at a couple of furniture stores the more appealing ones ran about $2-$3K and included a mirror. She says we don't need all that so I said drop me off and go and find one. Big mistake. When she returns she tells me we got off cheap only buying headboard with platform and two nightstands. I'm thinking ....yes!. Looked at the bill it was for $3.2K. Now I'm confused thought it would be cheaper. She says the only combo that sort of matches the beech flooring is the teak bedset. OMG teak!! One thing good is that she drives whatever I buy. Not without complaint though. Back to topic. With the new GM employee pricing plan I had priced a 2008 Denali at $29.8K hoping $12K for my current one I called one dealership after checking their inventory online. Salesperson confirms the vehicle by VIN. When I asked to confirm the price he says yeah yeah whatever the website says. A fully loaded Denali MSRP is around $57K so even with employee pricing - $5K cash back it's no where near a $28K discount. But I digress the salesperson knows what he's talking about. So when I get there I meet that salesperson I talked to. First question he asks is "did you say $29K after employee pricing and cashback?" That's what I said and do you remember what you said. He tells me he checked the website and the pricing was incorrect. I asked if they intended to honor the pricing. He replied that he had spoke to the sales manager and they were reviewing what they could offer. He asked me if I wanted to test drive. Told him nope just waiting for the final price. If it's not what the website said it would be I'd be leaving. Course we all know how this is going to end. Dealer offers bottom line $39K +ttl. If it's too good to be true.

Hi, I have been reading about this tensioner. I've got problems too. I live in New Zealand and I have a '99 short wheel base Voyager with 3.3l V6 engine. The tensioner is smooth and has no flange nor washer to hold on the belt. Anyway, today the black splined shaft has failed by fatigue crack and the whole tensioner unit has fallen off the motor. It is a first year of Uni classic fatigue crack with beech marks. If it had happened to me last night (driving 200km from Tauranga to Auckland) I would be dead at the bottom of a gulley, no question about it. Luckily I was only backing out of the garage. So, you'll be pleased to know the "export" versions don't get special treatment. Anyway, up to now I never lost a belt and for the last few months the belt did start squeaking at startup but quietened down when running. If your belt does start squeaking like mine then it could be that the tensioner is cracked causing the pulley set up a bit crooked. So, a full inspection of the tensioner including splined attachment shaft/axle is what I would recommend. If anyone else experienced this or if I am really just unlucky I'd be interested to know.
Test Drive

Test drove an XT with the premium pkg. today, and I must say that's an impressive vehicle, particularly for the price. My only complaint was that I felt the seat bottom was a little short; other than that, I fit fine and found it easy to get in and out of. I didn't take it over 4000rpm, as I didn't want to punish a new engine, but even then there was plenty of power. It was evident that there was lots more to be had. The back seat is a little tight, but since all we have to go back there, on a regular basis, is 2 small dogs, it will do fine. The radio sounded good, but I'm probably not one to judge, since my hearing isn't what it once was. Road noise was less than my ML430! Overall, I was quite pleased with the XT Cheers Pat
Brake Fail Update

Thanks, everybody for your replies. The car was flat bedded into the local Subaru dealer, and guess what? They couldn't find anything wrong. They were given a complete description of the event - brakes were not hot, so not fade, event started right after the first turn going down; good pedal pres, but to no effect. Use of gears ( mt ) and emerg brake helped keep some control. At the bottom of the hill, brakes again seemed normal. (perhaps we should name the car "Norma" - wasn't that Stephen King's possessed car?) Anyhow, the service adviser (good guy) has taken it home for the weekend, and will do some driving in the hills to try and duplicate. It's a 99 OB with only 21k miles on it. Cheers Pat
Brakes - Poss ABS Failure

For Juice, Paisan and/or Bob Holland; today I was driving my mother's 99 OB ( MT ) down the mtn. and it felt like the brakes had failed. At first I thought I had my big foot on both gas and brake but not the case. I would hit the brakes, and there would be a slight, initial decel, with good pedal pres, and then the car would accel. slightly ( mostly due to the downgrade.) The only way I got it slowed was thru the use of the gears and emerg. brake. This is quite a grade, approx 2000' drop in 3 miles. The strange thing is that at very slow speeds the brakes seemed normal. Perhaps there is a threshold where the ABS drops out. My inclination is to suspect the ABS box, releasing all pres. to the pucks. I did a search, here, and there was some discussion about a seemingly similar failure, but it degenerated into a "flame" session. I've left it with a mechanic at the bottom of the mtn., who's done work for me in the past - will see what he says. Any thoughts from you guys? Cheers (a shaken)Pat

Also- try and get some technical specs on the 4wd system, traction control, etc. Nissan is not telling a thing; they are just letting it lay there! The upshot is that interest is just going to die; then they will launch the thing , in whenever, and nobody will care! It's, frankly gone to the bottom of my list; not because it's not a good vehicle, but because there is so much else coming on to the market.
