Re: I Don't Get It..... [carolinabob]

The ES350 is based on the Camry. The Acura TL is based on the Accord. The Lucerne is based on the DTS. The upcoming Rolls Royce 4 (smaller than the Phantom) is based on the new BMW 7 series. Likewise, it is legit for Lincoln to have a car loosely based on another chassis. There is a market for luxury that may not be fully exclusive with world class dynamics. However, Lincoln should also have had something Lincoln exclusive, like the Infinitis, or the Caddy CTS or an LS replacement. But now is not the time to try to get anything exclusive going. Mercury would make the most sense to dump. It hardly sells at all...even worse than Lincoln if that can be imagined. And Mercury used to be LM's volume marque. However, Ford could more easily save Mercury by using European designs built here. Lincoln could be axed. Then if Ford survives, it could later be revived, starting with one well-engineered model worthy of the (old) name. Ford still has more of a chance to survive than Chrysler or GM do. But that's damning with faint praise in this market.

It is simply the wrong car at the wrong time. Had Lincoln been able to put as much effort into the MKZ (and into a people mover CUV smaller than the MKT), they would have something to sell now. Not that Lincoln could have foreseen what was coming. It just underscores how much damage Bill Ford did during his tenure by taking a marque that had finally outsold Cadillac, and starving it of new product as well as denying it a place in the now defunct Premier Auto Group--back when the company actually had the money to bring new product to market. The MKS is better than the 2002 Continental and it is better than the decrepit Town Car. It is a much better Cadillac DTS. Now if Lincoln had additionally gone ahead and designed a small car and something to replace the LS (a la CTS), they would be holding on a bit better. But everyone save Mini (and inexplicably Audi) is hurting right now.

Get the 09 F150. It has a stiffer frame, is quieter, offers side airbags (you cannot get them for any price on the LT), a six speed automatic and stability control (again, not available for any price on the LT).
2009 CR-V EX-L AWD w/ NAVI - $28,750 OTD
by couch21 on Sun Nov 16 06:26:00 PST 2008
After about twenty minutes working the phones, I found two dealers in Madison, WI and Milwaukee, WI were willing to go below invoice for a 2009 CR-V EX-L AWD w/ NAVI (Glacier Blue), but I only negotiated with dealers that had the actual car in the lot. I worked in the following add-ons AT dealer cost: - Wheel locks - Splash guards - All season mats - Trunk tray - Door edge guards - Chrome exhaust tip ACTUAL dealer cost is $454 including labor. I got that in writing from the dealer, which I believe to be true since it's lower than the parts total if I bought them from www.handa-accessories.com and shipped them to my own home. The invoice price difference between an 08 and 09 CR-V is $450 for this particular trim. Tell the dealer it makes no sense to buy an 08 if you can offset one year's worth of depreciation (typically $1000 or more a year) by paying for an 09 upfront. Dealers will understand this and be willing to work with you. So I successfully negotiated 09 CR-V EX-L AWD w/ NAVI (Glacier Blue) at 08 invoice price ($27,068 incld destination) + $454 in add-ons + 5.5% tax ($1489) + $125 title/fees and extra negotiating to beat the competition = $28,750 OTD. That comes up to $826 below the 09 invoice price+dest. Both dealers were willing to do this. Under invoice for 2009 and DEALER cost for add-ons is always possible, and who knows, someone out there may even do better. I'm helping a friend buy her first Honda, and I get a free steak dinner in return. And free season mats and key chain for me from the dealer for the referral. :)

see autoblog's take on it...apparently the complaints about the Genesis suspension is that it is too soft. The car is a definite bargain compared to the MKS... http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/13/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-hyundai-genesis-s- edan/

As with anything these days, the product keeps changing and improving. If you wait, you will be like my friend who is still waiting for the right time to get his first computer. No matter what you do, more features will continue to be added and the prices of the more exotic options will continue to fall. Buy the car when you need one, and don't worry about missing out on something. You will always miss out on something.
