Re: Extended warranty prices [inquizativeguy]

I thought I did tell you a few posts back, but let me repeat with more detail... I contacted the person at Molle Toyota identified at this link: Molle Toyota I also contacted the person at Danville Toyota identified at this link: Danville Toyota. Hint: get quotes from both and go back to the higher one and with the lower quote and you should end up lower than $580 for the warranty I talked about. The dealership you buy the car from makes bank from warranties. When I bought my Sienna they wanted $1650 ($300 more than MSRP) for the 7/75 Platinum and offered to "give it away" for $995 (and then the "mistakenly" wrote 6yrs instead of 7) when the actual cost to them is probably between $500 and $550. They are getting double or triple the money for a product that they don't have to stock or keep inventory on and when claims do get made on it, the money comes from Toyota and will likely go to their own service department. They push it hard because it is a win-win-win all the way around for them.

$760 is not too bad, but going online I got the same warranty for $580. With as many gizmos and gadgets to break as my van has, and the Limited has many more, the price seemed worth it for the extra security especially since this will be used for family road trips and Toyota does not offer towing or rental coverage in the standard warranty. Molle Toyota and Toyota of Danville are the outfits that will sell the warranties at great prices online. I'd suggest poking around on the Sienna Forum website to get more information on who to contact since Edmunds restricts putting contact information up.

osodeoro Can I ask how you worked the deal to get to the price you paid? Did you negoiate over the internet, and did you have quotes from other dealers you used as leverage ? I live close to Pleasanton, and the deal you got seems very fair to me. Just wondering how you worked the deal and for any advice you might have. Also, does anyone know the holdback on a G35 Journey with premium and navigation? Thanks, Don

Glad you enjoyed the ride, they are amazing. I was on the other end of that kind of exercise at Spring Mt. MSP in Pahrump, NV last fall. Had two students, one a GM exec and the other a guy my age from So. Calif., leading edge baby boomer. The car is amazing but for one's first track toy it is too fast to learn in. Both of them had to spin out once before they started to listen about going in slow and exiting fast, learning the line and 'building' speed. And the spins came with the Active Handling system working, you really have to screw up to accomplish that! No harm and no foul as all ended well and they pretty much both improved greatly over the weekend. The car is obscenely fast. Randy

No dispute on your facts, 25% is just over $10k off, but that happens to be in the same range as what people get off on Vettes. As to yours being less than 'asking' on e-bay, I'm sure you're right, some people are always looking for a sucker. I notice you didn't repeat that yours was $30k less than the Vette, that is a little bit hard to believe. As for the Cayman being just a hard top boxster, I don't think the track times will support that. I know one Nor Calif driver who switched and is doing 5 sec's per lap better in the Cayman, that is huge in terms of performance. The set up and power will both show up with a good driver. Again, doing 75 on onramps is nothing compared to doing 119 down the turn one hill at Laguna Seca into the Andretti Hairpin! And there it is legal and fairly safe, since everyone else expects you to be doing those kinds of speeds. Then again, that is a C5 on street tires and not a Cayman or C6 on DOT-R's which are both probably doing several clicks more. Like I said, enjoy what you drive, I do. Randy
