Backy ... your post was a nice read.

Sorry it took me a couple days to read your post about England. I have a similar experience, albeit four years old. My wife and I flew to England in April 1998. We were staying with friends, who picked us up at Heathrow and drove us the 1-hour drive to Ashford, Kent. They had to use two cars (I invited my parents to come with us, nice guy I am) and we took turns in a BMW, a Vauxhall Cavalier (not a Chevy Cavalier by ANY means) and a Renault something-or-other. I was very impressed with the Vauxhall and the Renault; I think the British, or those who supply cars to the British, have really designed these diminutive machines much better than the ones we get here. I'm a big guy -- 280 pounds and 6-1 -- yet I was quite comfy in the rear seats of both of these subcompacts. I was extremely impressed with their highways and the condition of their cars. Everyone seemed to know what LANE they were supposed to be in, even on the M5, an eight-lane highway out of London -- and everyone obeyed the speed limit. Despite the fact that it was afternoon rush hour and the road was busy, I saw no one speeding, tailgating and darting in and out of traffic. To top it off, in the 10 days we were there, even taking the car on Le Shuttle (the "auto train" that follows the same track as the Eurostar under the English Channel, but "lopes along" at only 130 mph) to drive around France and Belgium, we never saw one traffic accident or even a highway cop. My hosts told me the traffic laws are MUCH more strict over there than they are here. And it was quite evident. She never really gave me any details on the law, but after witnessing how people drive over there, they must have the death penalty for a moving violation! I saw a Porsche dealer when I was there, and doing some quick arithmetic, I learned I could drive a 4-year-old 944 off the lot for the U.S. equivalent of $18,000! I seriously considered moving to England at that point ... ;-) We flew Icelandair at the suggestion of a lady I work with who flies back to England to visit her parents four times a year (boy was she right for her suggestion!) and we had to stop for an hour in Reykjavik. I got to see a new Toyota Corolla hatchback then -- completely unlike any Toyota model in the States. It was gorgeous. So then I wanted to move to Iceland! Meade

West Houston Subaru, but I need to qualify a couple things. I liked them because of their service manager, who, unfortunately, just left the dealership. I have been trying to track him down, because I thought I might follow him, but no luck. I have been to Gillman Subaru, and didn't care for them. West Houston Subaru is at I-10 and Dairy Ashford, but they are moving to a brand new stand-alone dealership a few miles further west at Barker-Cypress any day now. The convenience of that location being so close to me may mean that I stick with them. Welcome to Houston! Jim

I love the Ashford website. They've got just about everything you can think of (but no Bulgari).
laurasdada--watches, another favorite hobby of mine (off-topic)

Well, this is a tough question. You've made three excellent choices. My personal favorite is the Omega Seamaster Professional (the Bond watch). There are now numerous versions. I would go with model 2531.80 (full size, stainless steel, automatic movement). Check out http://www.ashford.com. I've owned this watch for ten years now, and it has NEVER failed me. Tough as nails and classic/sporty. It's not as contemporary as the Tag Heuer Kirium, but I think it's less trendy. Bombproof, too. The band alone costs $300 and is sturdy as hell. You will not be disappointed. The IWC is a great watch, too, but I think it's a bit on the pricey side. Then again, you may be independently wealthy, so that may not be a factor for you.
rbb2--Need update on Rattle!!!!!

My rattling Intrigue needs some help and you are the man; since you are factory blessed.. One thing is certain: I am not factory blessed!!!! My extended warranty can be cancelled through 4/16 w/o penalty; so if they don't come with a total rattle cure prior I shall cancel and save a bunch.. The car is smooooooooth at flying speeds; so smoooooth it is scary, and I wish the original tires were blessed with more life. It is smoother than the Caddy at speeds and the Caddy has new Michelins, double balanced by different idiots... Also the SLP exhaust is sounding better.. The car was made for glass smooth concrete roads for I just was able to exercise it for about 15 miles on a non crowded stretch of I-696 which has a center wall to ensure no crossover cops to surprise one. b4z::::::::I would say when you lease is up on the lemon; GM will make you an attractive offer to keep it.. white6:::::::Pontiac sent me a large packet of the Firebird/Grand Prix line complete with a VCR tape--canned the tape..GM sent me the $100 gift certificate for a free gift from Ashford.com.. This was earned by test driving the Catera..which by the way I have never done.. I see where some of the Olds dealers have already hung up the keys--an article of one dealer in Ohio did it quickly and expanded his Ford dealership.. This was just after he had spent big bucks several years ago upgrading to appease GM.. Roger Smith was the person who started GM on this downhill ride..

You can always buy cheap tools. Don't do it. Comparing a Chinese 10" compound sliding miter saw to your DeWalt is like comparing a 72 Datsun PU to your 3/4 ton Silverado. "The bitter taste of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price is gone" Buy the best, buy once in a lifetime. Let me ask Dorothy about HH, but I'm sure you are right and she is not interested - I'm up, just depends on when. I'm looking at going down to LA for the season finale of NHRA Drag Racing. Nothing like watching 315 mph dragsters (0-315 mph in 4.6 seconds) to get the blood moving again. November 12 is the Finals. I'm thinking of taking the week after off and going to Death Valley. There are some more remote places I want to visit in DV. Striped Butte, the house where Charles Manson was captured, Confidence Mill, Ashford Mill, and much more. It's not too hot in Nov, but the evenings can be cold. I'm ready to hit the road again. Mike L
