57 former T-Bird -- Acme Auto Wrecking. You can buy nice ones for $25,000, so where are you going with this piece of crap? Oh, a rubber-bumper MG Midget, top speed of 72 mph and exhaust manifolds that glow in the dark. What's not to like? Hard Sell. Take what you can get. I like that "no scammers, please"---what's a scammer going to say: "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize...." 32 International Van -- very cool, but how would you like to have to flat sand THOSE panels? Maybe a museum would want it? Maybe a Hollywood celeb could transport their live lions between summer homes? Triumph GT6 -- no, not a TR6 relative, but rather a Triumph Spitfire relative with a different 6 cylinder engine from the TR6. I'd say Acme Auto Wrecking for this baby. Let it die, so that others might live. 73 Coupe de Ville -- more like $12,000 restored if you hit a home run. This car? $3K seems a tad optimistic given a) not running b) rust c) other issues. I'd say nifty parts car for a better dinosaur. 53 Dodge PU resto-rod -- fair enough

BMW 2002 -- Acme Auto Wrecking Morris Minor --- Hey Acme can you pick up two at once? Hillman Minx -- maybe worth something in the UK, but not here. Very entry level car, Sunbeam motor. If it were bright and shiny, with a Sunbeam Alpine engine, you might get a bite in the USA---but not like this. Put it in a box, send it over the pond. The Brits treat rust like we treat washing a car. It's second nature to them. 51 NASH -- Somebody might take that on. Doesn't look too, too bad, and there's a $10,000--$12,000 pot 'o gold waiting for you once you do the complete restoration.

I wish those telephone answering systems were never invented. Someone thought up the idea of an answering machine and logically it should make sense. In the real world however, it just doesn't work very well. I had some questions about snow tires - I didn't press 1 that was sales, 2 was to check on your cars status - that doesn't work, 3 is to book an appointment, by the time we get to 4,5,6, I realize none of them apply....I remembered 3 was closest to what I wanted.....then I get the answering machine. Same dealer offers a shuttle service...always say NO PROBLEM. But it is always too busy to be of much use. I also dislike their over politeness. I am treated like royalty on the phone but not when I really need to get things done...words on the phone are just blah, blah, blah, thank for calling Acme Bimmer, we appreciate your calls

Chevrolet has a 100000 mi powertrain warranty and 3/36k mile bumper to bumper. There is only so much security one needs.... whether it is "worth it" depends on "how much?" Numerous people on the Hyundai forum (with 100k powertrain and 60k bumper to bumper std. ) have paid $1000 or more for a 120k AFTERMARKET warranty (you fill in the paperwork and hope to be reimbursed from ACME co.) this is downright stupid. The fact they can work it into the financing for $20/mo makes it more saleable. I purchased numerous cars in the 80's and early 90's with just 12mo bumper to bumper. Unbelieveable this was the standard for 20 (50?) years before. Reliability was also poor compared to now. (remember the good ol days?) For cars (nissan, honda, ford etc) with 3/36 bb and 5/60k powertrain standard a bumper to bumper 8yr /120kmi bb extension for a cheap (under 20k) sedan should be around $800. For more expensive vehicles loaded with electric sliding doors, 4wd, navi, etc we're talking about $1200. For the Chevy one would expect about $500 or so. Much more than this and you should pass. Many people get taken for $2000 or more for these in the dealer's finance office. Honda's warranty used to be offered online by several dealerships but I think they terminated the practice. I believe Honda's extended warranty is available until the 36k mile mark for $100 more than around time of purchase (under 6kmiles). Others may be similar. Warranties can be shopped just as cars can by getting 10 or so dealers to compete end of month.(sales quotas). 20 or more bids could be solicited. Just email for the best price from the dealership and they may give you the finance officers email.(or just forward it to him) Good luck --jjf Did you purchase a "extended warranty" when you bought your car. Is it realy worth it or it's more like a last minute gamble? I don't know what to do
