Doesn't really seem fair to have those Longhorns - I don't think the Dukes were from Texas! I always got the feeling they were in Arkansas or Alabama. The Dukes took place in California. Mostly on a Warner Brothers backlot, but also occasionally at the Big Sky Ranch just over the hill from "Little House on the Prairie" and once in awhile in Soledad Canyon just south of Acton, where they also filmed "Duel", various episodes of Charlies Angles, CHiPs, BJ and the Bear, and a Geico commercial or two. I remember an episode of "V: The Series" where they trashed the Hazzard town set to make it look war-torn. And another episode where a crooked sherrif that was dealing with the Visitors made the Boar's Nest his base camp...although they had a different sign up that said "Desert Dollar" on it or something like that. :P Seriously, it was supposed to take place in Georgia. I think the first season, which only had half the normal episodes because it was a mid season replacement, was actually filmed in Georgia, but then they moved it to California for the rest of the run. Oh, and yeah, I knew who Boss Hogg was! The actor, Sorrell Brooke, did Play Archie Bunker's boss at the loading dock. The lady that played LuLu Hogg was in an episode too, playing one of Edith's friends that Barney Heffner was trying to shag after his wife Blanche ran off with the mailman, furnance repair man, Jehova's witness, et al one time too many.

hehe.. yeah, I know Valleyford... I was a volunteer firefighter for the department that's headquartered there in the 70's & 80's... worked/lived in the Moran Prairie & Ponderosa stations, as well as fill-in dispatch at the station in beautiful downtown Valleyford. :) I'm a transplanted South Hill brat myself - Hamblen Elementary. In the Valley now - in the Central Valley HS vicinity. Cheers! Paul

The funny thing is that yesterday I went to Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie which is on the old Joliet Arsenal grounds. Its about 20 miles or so south of me and all but the first couple of miles are on Illinois state highway 53. Almost the entire trip down Rt 53 there was a Will County Sheriffs car behind me. It wasn't the same car either. One would be behind me for a few miles and either pass me up or turn off and within a mile or so another one would appear behind me. This happened with like five different police cars all belonging to the county sheriffs department. Man it was weird. Man if I were paranoid I would say they were trying to follow me.

West Coast: Midwesterners. East Coast: Northeasterners. Naples: a mixing point. Tampa: Spanish, Italians, Cubans and other natives of the Caribbean, mixed with the old native Floridians and Midwesterners. On the West Coast the fishing families were mostly from the Carolinas. Ybor City! Baby! And, of course, in Tampa, Cuban sandwiches on Cuban bread (actually invented in Tampa) -- there's a contest every year for best sandwich. The Panhandle is more like Alabama, it's older and more cultured (sort of). The interior is dotted with towns like Wachula, Wakulla, Myakka, Micanopi, Immokolee, Bowling Green, etc. where the old native Floridians live -- the old farm and ranch families. Polk County (East of Tampa) is mining country -- big strip mines that extract phosphate, and their aftermath (hills, ponds, groves of farm-trees) -- and it's good Subaru country. I used to hunt fossils there with my Dad -- he worked in the phosphate industry for 30 years, I worked in it for 4 years. Lots of roads where all four wheels are needed to drive you forward. Hot and humid, oh, yes! Boring? Boring is in the eye of the beholder: flat straight roads, yes. But if you know where you're going -- lots of places to get lost on purpose. And fishing, hunting, sand roads, hills in the interier. Dark forests. Wide prairies. The perfect little small towns, like those mentioned -- or Lakeland, an exquisite little college town; or Leesburg, a postcard quality downtown where there's music playing on hidden speakers. There's the Old South, and modern chrome and glass cities. And there is a great mix of cultures - grits and cornbread, hot sauce and deviled crabs, a Latin tradition going back more than a hundred years. And a great place to own a Subaru: those sand roads, those back roads to lakes and winding black-water rivers, to forests and sinkholes. And blinding rain in the summer -- crack of doom storms that turn the horizon black, with white storm-birds circling before them. Anyway. FLOR'da, my old new home. When I was a kid, I went to sleep listening to the frogs screaming and the cars speeding to and from the beach bars.
Pricing Thanks

Thanks for the thoughts on what price I should be going for. I am in the unlucky position of being in a population density area - Wisconsin, not counting cows that is. This doesn't give the few dealers much of a reason to negotiate. I am dealing with the biggest subbie dealer in the state - they have had anywhere from 4 to 10 wrx's on the lot at any given time. The IMBA idea is great except I really can't wait that long. I have a 10 year old Accord that is starting to go south in several areas and I don't want to put any money into it at this point. John

im5, howdy neighbor! I am in Eden Prairie too. I got my windows tinted at Autovisions in Eden Prairie. They did an excellent job, I have had 4 cars done there over the years. It is at 7222 Washington Avenue South, Eden Prairie, MN, 55344. They use LLumar tint. Iamz, I do think you are crazy. ;) I think I am crazy too for staying at this job that requires me to work on 180-220 degree cars that have been idling on highway 100 in rush hour traffic and then come in to get their oil changed...quickly. I am usually not a whiner, but this summer has truly sucked BAD. Jstandefer, Give me all of that instead of this horrid weather. Seriously, I can handle a couple earthquakes (when was the last time San Diego had a bad one). Bad traffic? No problem, we have bad traffic here too (MSP and SD have almost identical populations), at least you guys have some form of mass transit to ease the congestion. A little rain? No biggie, I'll take that over snow packed congested freeways that take 2 hours sometimes to travel 8 miles. Hmmm...High cost of living and absolutely beautiful weather OR High taxes, EXTREME weather conditions, bad traffic, salty corrosive roads, potholes that will make quick work of my nice 16 inch rims, 50 series tires, and tight suspension, and oh yeah... blood sucking mosquitos, lots of them. I have always toyed around with the idea of moving to SD; I have relatives there. This year's weather conditions were the icing on the cake though. I'm movin as soon as I can.
