The best canoe fishing is drifting sideways down a class II rock garden dragging a Mepps behind. Very effective with trout and grayling. Hard to scull a canoe one-handed like you can a jon boat if you like to fly fish lakes for bream though. But we digress...boy do we digress. Must be the sockeye I had for lunch. fwiw, my mpg hit carrying a tandem canoe is around 1 mpg.
Cold enough for thick ice

It has been bitterly cold at the head of the lakes for almost a month. The bay is frozen over - the ice is over a foot thick. So this past Sunday people were out walking or ice skating around. The ice fishermen were out a little further trying to catch lake trout. Of course, we've had little or no snow in our area.

Roger---my body side moldings were $150 and door edge guards $65. My son, 40 years old loves the Infinit G35---said that's what he's going for when he trades-in his Maxima. You'll have to get over to Lac La Ronge again--great walleyes and lake trout! I use my Nav sparingly and I told my dealer it $2,900 and the Remote Start, $499 we a TOTAl waste of $$$ I LOVE the Laser Cruise---it works PERFECTLY!! I keep my tires at 35 PSI and I checkk them every 2 weeks. Also have Michelins on wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd and same PSI in them. I wish the front end had more protection--too many "little" rock chips on a car with only 7,800 miles and not a year old until the 26th of this month. All the best and I'll watch for you the Forum! I'm retired Air Force and Air Force Civil Service--spent 13 years in England spread over 1969-1973. 1988-1993 and 1999-2002--loved it! Cheers!! Bob Bob

havalongavalon: Just got back from 2 weeks fishing in your fine country--love going to Canada every year! We were at Lac la Ronge in Saskatchewan--big lake trout and walleyes. Hey--fiahing I understand and thats why the reels have a "drag" system to accomodate the varying sizes of the fish--maybe the same priniple need s to be applied to braking and gas peddle pressure! I guess that after 50+ years of driving--I thought I knew how to apply the brakes and step on the gas---duh---I guess I needed my Avalon to give me Continuing education! Breaks over--back to class!!! Reaching back a few posts here, yes, the FJ Cruiser is too funky for me too. But out there in the dirt.... Which brings me back to your need for aftermarket rims and tires. I'd particularly look forward to reading how it's going there in the field after you making this "essential" move. Noikan's Vatavia line looks interesting, actually with seasonal crossover off road use and road comfort, all built in there too. Hawk those low profile alloys for the oem steel wheels and the right tires! Easier said than done, I understand, and the alloys do look "foxy". Nice to see the ice finally thaw off some fav lakes now, eh? I, and the trout grow restless...Happy trails to ya!

Well I'm staying for 4 days at a place called Paradise Resort north of Bishop. Cabins from the 20's with Rock Creek running about 30 feet away. Trout for any meal. Road trips will probably take us to Hot Creek for some theraputic soaking and some jeeping up by Lake Mary. Maybe a trip by the Postpile if time permits. I always take my wife away for our anniversary. I used to go to Catalina every year but the annual art show and the Seagrams marlin tourney coincide with our anniversary and Avalon just gets a little too busy for my taste. Its no fun waiting an hour to get your Wiki whacked at Luau Larry's, if you know what I mean. Bishop and parts north this time of the year however are perfect. Tourist season is about done for and the crazy skiers haven't materialized yet. Lots of antique stores to peruse and a great restaurant at the resort if we don't feel like cooking in the cabin. Yes I'll take pictures and put them up at the Bucket. Y'all have fun while I'm gone. Alan soon to be in the mountains
